Michael Vick made a bizarre choice when he picked out his new puppy ... 'cause the convicted dog fighter's new poochie is one of the TOUGHEST breeds around ... one that's used by the Navy SEALS.

Vick was spotted out at a dog training class at a PetSmart in New Jersey recently ... where he's been working with his new pet ... a Belgian Malinois.

FYI -- the Belgian Malinois have a great reputation as a military working dog ... and according to reports, the Navy SEALS who killed Bin Laden had a BM with them at the time of the raid.

According to CrossingBroad.com, the dog is a female named "Angel."

It's been 4 years since Vick was released from prison for running a brutal dog fighting ring in Atlanta ... in which several animals were killed.

So, we gotta ask ...

Vick gets a dog. Chris Brown gets Rihanna. Pete Rose is still banned from baseball. What a world.

This dog killer shouldn't be allowed to own another dog. He should have lost that right when he electrocuted, drowned and shot over 50 of them!!

I can't believe he's allowed to own a dog or any animal. Disgraceful. We're watching you, dog killer.

He never deserves to be any type of pet owner - not only dogs but any animal. I'm sorry if his children can't have one but in this case it's the children paying for the sins of the father.

It's time to let it go and forgive. I don't understand people who have selective forgiveness. Why is it ok to forgive one person and not another. He went to jail, did community service and received counseling. He is getting another dog to show his children how to treat animals. He is trying to do the right thing.

What's worse is the people saying he shouldn't be able to have any type of animal. So it's ok to be a father and parent a chid but not an animal? An animals life is worth more than a human? It sure sounds like it the way some of ya'll are going on and on. No, his children shouldn't have to be punished because of a bad decision their father made. They should be able to have pets. If everyone was punished for what their father did then this would be one sad, world to live in. Everyone makes mistakes and makes bad choices. Hopefully he has learned from his. He should be given another chance.

Sorry Mike, but you should have lost your right to ever own another dog. No second chance on this one. I'd have more respect if you didnt get one. Your high profile lets all abusers think they deserve another chance after such horrific treatment of those dogs you had.

He came up in a culture where this was acceptable and the norm. He was also a stupid patsy for people who used him in order to keep the dog breeding/fighting racket up. I'm certainly not making excuses for the torture and death of innocent animals but he did his time. Hopefully he gained awareness of the agony and torture he put upon those poor animals.

His dogfighting ring was in Virginia (Suffolk) not in Atlanta
