Russell Brand

SWATTED

4/8/2013 4:40 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0408_russell_brand_house_article
The swatting epidemic continues ... this time, the victim is Russell Brand, TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... cops raced to Brand's L.A. home after receiving a call from someone reporting two men with guns approaching the home.

We're told the caller told police one of the men was black, one white -- and they were each sporting body armor.

When cops arrived to the scene, no one was there -- Russell had left the home 30 minutes prior to the call.

After a thorough inspection of the property, cops eventually determined the whole thing was a prank -- another "swatting" incident ... just like Bieber, Ashton Kutcher, Diddy, the Kardashians, etc.

TMZ is just encouraging swatting by giving it attention. This is a lame fad that will die out like others. The worse part is that the people committing these 'pranks' are taking valuable resources away from the people who need them during times of crisis and are wasting tax payer money with their stupidity. Calling 911 or the cops in a non-emergency prevents those who have emergencies from getting the help they need. People assume that there are enough operators and police to handle every incident but this is untrue, read about it - nothing worse than calling 911 during an emergency and no one picks up...

Maybe if TMZ and others would not report these incidents they would stop. The reports of these just feed right into what these idiots are looking for...publicity.

TMZ, why would they stop swatting when you keep giving them the attention they crave?

Maybe these swatting pranks are meant to deter police attention away from another, bigger crime. Or maybe they're practice for something bigger.

Hey TMZ, perhaps these people would stop reporting on these swattings, they would stop happening. As you are giving those that call these in their 15 seconds of fame.

How about instead of sending an entire swat team they send one car to make sure its true first?

When you call 911, don't you usually have to give the dispatcher the number you're calling from? While I realize it's obviously simple to lie and/or provide a fake one, isn't there any way to trace these calls?! I just find it odd that with all the resources available today, there is still NO idea who's behind these silly pranks, which takes away valuable time and energy from actual emergencies.

When police burst into Brand's home, they saw him with his pants around his ankles, a phone in one hand, and a credit card in the other..
