Politician Pushing Anti-Swatting Bill

SWATTED

4/19/2013 3:37 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0419_ken_lieu_abc_article
It seems the swatters have a flair for irony -- and a vindictive streak ... their latest victim is the California state senator gunning to shut them down ... TMZ has learned.

Senator Ted Lieu
was swatted earlier today ... police responded to a 911 call claiming he had shot his wife inside their Torrance, Calif., home ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Lieu tells TMZ ... he was out of town, his wife was home sick and the kids were at school.  He vows he's more determined than ever to squash the swatters.

Although Ted's not an A-list celeb like fellow swatting victims Justin Bieber, Ashton Kutcher, Selena Gomez or Justin Timberlake -- he is spearheading legislation that would punish swatters by making them cover the cost of the incident -- around $10,000 a pop.

That's one expensive phone bill.

The irony in all of this, I suspect, is that the people/children doing the swatting probably feel like they're "fighting the man" in some way...meanwhile, all they're really doing is making it ridiculously expensive for the rest of us to live here when it comes to paying our taxes.

THANKS, YOU LITTLE JERKS.

Politicians are idiots. Swatting is already against the law. They want to make it "illegalier?" It is the victims who are being vindictive. Laugh it off and eventually the swatters grow up.

I have a better idea. How about the media stop posting about swatting. These loser kids are just doing it so they can see it be mentioned on TMZ.

You flakes in LALA land don't have a clue. The key to any legislative resolution is to make swatting a felony, punishable by 5 yaers in states prison and a $500k fine. Then make sure that anyone convicted serves 5 years. What a novel approach. California judges and the entire court system is a joke. Where else in this country do you get a 90 day sentence and you are not even locked up long enough to need a haircut when you get out.... It is a complete disgrace.

They need to create a bill banning the media from covering the "Swatting" instances. That's the only reason these criminals continue. So they can see their "work" in the media. STOP covering them, and they will spot swatting. It's that simple TMZ.

Hey swatters, if the cops are running after your pranks, they will not be available for emergencies. You could cost the lives of children by doing this. You are emotionally disturbed.

In a sick, weird way, having this happen to you is a definite career booster. Irritating but it does keep you high profile and relevant in an age where this generation only has 3.1 seconds of focus capabilities.
