Stevie Wonder

to Marvin Gaye's Family

You Got Crap Legal Advice

9/23/2013 8:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

092213_stevie_wonder_launch
Stevie Wonder thinks Marvin Gaye's family should take higher ground (see what we did there) legally speaking -- because their crappy lawyer is getting them into a lawsuit with Robin Thicke they can't win.

Stevie was fired up when we got him outside LAX, and says the fuss about "Blurred Lines" possibly ripping off Marvin's hit "Got to Give it Up" ... is stupid.

Stevie knows what he's talking about here ... remember he and Marvin were contemporaries during Motown's golden age -- and he says he's dealt with similar lawsuits himself.

Stevie delivers a direct message to Marvin's son. He might wanna pay attention.

Either way, there are other songs they could sue him for.

I heard it through the grapevine that Stevie Wonder was going to comment on this subject.

i love, marvin, stevie, and robin. i've that song more than 10 times and NEVER heard the song "got to give it up" .
that doesn't even make sense.
some songs that are stolen or copied you can hear the song being argued clear as a bell. but not this one.

Stevie Wonder is giving good advice, but there is one aspect missing from his opinion which is that the Marvin Gaye family is broke and lawsuits are quite often filed for financial gain and not because of infringement issues. The Gaye family may have thought they could score a payday in the form of a payoff from Robin Thicke and his legal counsel.

Can we assume that if anyone rips off stevie wonder music in a similar fashion he won't sue?

Thats great news for anyone with autotune and no talent.

Let's see: Team TMZ (most of them), and Team Marvin Gay, say the songs are similar and should be the subject of a lawsuit.

Stevie F'n Wonder (Seriously!) and myself don't know what the hell you guys are talking about, the songs are quite different, or, at most, are the same genre (and to qualify as a specific genre there will be similarities in beat, etc.).

I wonder ... No, I don't, you guys are nuts.

Robin Thicke should be sued just for writing that dumb song. And for the crappy performance with that slut Miley Cyrus. Horrible.
