Paul Walker

Death Car May Have Malfunctioned

12/2/2013 6:25 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

1201_walker_car_rodas_tmz_facebookThe exotic sports car in which Paul Walker violently died, crashed as a result of mechanical failure -- very possibly a steering fluid leak ... this according to sources closely tied to the auto shop where the vehicle was stored and maintained.

Sources connected to Always Evolving -- the shop co-owned by Walker and the Porsche driver Roger Rodas -- tell TMZ they saw evidence of a fluid burst and subsequent fluid trail before the skid marks at the accident scene.

The AE sources point to the fact there is a noticeable absence of skid marks until just before the point of impact. They say if Roger had lost control the skid marks would show swerving, but instead the marks were in a straight line. They feel this cements the theory the driver didn't have steering control.

Also suspicious -- the fire spreading so quickly in the front of the car. The sources say flames would be expected in the rear where the engine is ... but fire in the front reinforces their theory of a fluid leak of some sort.

113013_paul_walker_burning_launchWe're told the $500,000 Carrera GT was NOT modified and was driven rarely so they believe any failure must be a factory defect.

As one source put it ... "Roger was a world class driver" -- and while he might have been speeding (as cops have said) ... the notion he just lost control is preposterous.

Kartrashian Klown

RIP to both of them and my sincerest condolences to their families and friends. I believe this theory...because the car exploded and the black smoke also points to it being a chemical fire..some kind of liquid that triggered the explosion. Very tragic.

Did that guy say "don't give help"?
Umm, wow...

To all the earlier comments that said Paul and his friend were at fault for this accident, and their recklessness caused their deaths. SHAME ON YOU! Stop and think before you post such nastiness. Rest in Power!

Just morbid.
Filming this and showing it. I bet this footage was sold.

They may not be close up but they are filming people burning to death . Hopefully it was quick :(

I really hope Paul's daughter does watch the news or look at these sites that show this video.

I can't imagine the pain both those men's family's are going through. And then for this to pop up everywhere....smh

ENOUGH ALREADY, TMZ! Fast and Furious is a show about STREET RACING and Roger Rodas was speeding to the tune of probably 65 mph on a city street! We're lucky they didn't kill anyone else like a family with six children in a car. This spin you are attempting will undoubtedly get the attention of the Porsche corporate lawyers. It's incredibly inaccurate and speculating on an epic scale.

Um, Idiots... Pretty sure Fast and the Furious is JUST A MOVIE, People need to stop saying he was street racing...

That might be a problem for Porsche: How can it be that top drivers like Lindsay Lohan and Paul Walker can't get their cars under control??

What a crock!

If there was a leak, and these “mechanics” knew about it; WHY did they let the vehicle out onto the road?

As for straight skid marks THAT IS NOT an indicator a malfunction. It is a sign of an arrogant driver, not driving safely.

How absolutely morbid and horrible of you to put this video up. It is not helping any story along at all, and is terrible to watch. Long time TMZ fan, may not stay much longer because of this totally unnecessary and gruesome footage.

The Porsche Carrera GT has a fuel tank in the middle of the car, right behind the seats and in front of the engine. The car hit the tree sideways, close to the middle section of the car. The force of the impact was so hard that it most likely caused the fuel lines to rupture as well as the tank. That in turn caused the fuel to burst out and that caused the explosion. The skid marks tell us that there was too much speed and the driver of the car had lost control. That's why he had full brakes on as he tried to stop it before it impacted the tree or where ever. However, there was too much speed. It's all very simple if you actually think about it. It's also very sad and tragic. The loss of not only their families and friends but also their fans and co-workers is very sad indeed. If something good can come out of this, hopefully it makes people think about dangers of speeding.

You have reached a new low by posting a video of two people dying. Shame on you and every other media outlet posting this. There is a line.

i really liked paul. he seemed like one of us - sorta normal (even with all his money!) and i loved that he did charities... he had a good way about him ..makes me cry to think he's gone so early... he would have become better and better - RUNNING SCARED is his best movie - he dies in it... i pray for same ending now...:/

There's a problem here

It would be nice if your spin was correct but I doubt it. I would also doubt whoever your "source" was who referred to the driver as a "world class driver." No one understands screwing up while speeding more than a speed driver. If he was a professional speed driver and he was speeding on a public street he was certainly not world class.
