Paul Walker

Death Car May Have Malfunctioned

12/2/2013 6:25 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

1201_walker_car_rodas_tmz_facebookThe exotic sports car in which Paul Walker violently died, crashed as a result of mechanical failure -- very possibly a steering fluid leak ... this according to sources closely tied to the auto shop where the vehicle was stored and maintained.

Sources connected to Always Evolving -- the shop co-owned by Walker and the Porsche driver Roger Rodas -- tell TMZ they saw evidence of a fluid burst and subsequent fluid trail before the skid marks at the accident scene.

The AE sources point to the fact there is a noticeable absence of skid marks until just before the point of impact. They say if Roger had lost control the skid marks would show swerving, but instead the marks were in a straight line. They feel this cements the theory the driver didn't have steering control.

Also suspicious -- the fire spreading so quickly in the front of the car. The sources say flames would be expected in the rear where the engine is ... but fire in the front reinforces their theory of a fluid leak of some sort.

113013_paul_walker_burning_launchWe're told the $500,000 Carrera GT was NOT modified and was driven rarely so they believe any failure must be a factory defect.

As one source put it ... "Roger was a world class driver" -- and while he might have been speeding (as cops have said) ... the notion he just lost control is preposterous.

On BBCs award winning and long running show TOP GEAR, the host spun almost lost control on the show, he then states that if your not careful this car will put you in the wall, and god only knows how many super cars hes driven around their track. Also "The Stig" or legendary F1 race car driver Micheal Shumaker took an entire morning to do one hot lap in the car for the show. They had a vid of his first lap he spins out on a turn, the reason it took so long for him is he kept losing control of the car, because it has too much power. Honestly it really doesnt get much more professional then Shumaker in the world so just saying a world class driver did not lose control is simply trying pay respect to your lost buddy.

Loss of power steering does not mean loss of control. A good driver would say "shucks" and drive it to the shop, and that would be that. It would take an extraordinary amount of driver ineptitude for -that- failure to have caused -this- crash.

JUST SAYIN'.

So I just spoke to a representative at the Porsche dealership in Colorado. He said since the car was 8 years old, no lawsuits would hold up court. And I find it hard to believe Paul or Rodger didn't have any mods on the car.

Has no one noticed that this article is entirely based on speculation from the car maintenance shop that could have liability for poor or improper maintenance? This article sounds more like misdirection and innuendo than actual news.

Porsche is No.1

Any speculation that the world's top supercar (at the time)had some sort of a factory defect is completely ridiculous and stupid. A car that can go 100mph in under 6 seconds is not controllable by anyone if they are going too fast. Wake up idiots.

The passenger rear tire was the only one shredded with the belts showing. For that kind of damage to occur, it would have had to be spinning at high speed during a blow out. I imagine while powering into the last curve the tire blew. The car fishtailed right, they over corrected to the left, then the right again, and crashed. It is very sad, they were both kind and good hearted people. They will be missed.
