Scorsese Actress

Husband Sues Over Killing

She Was Run Over and Left for Dead

An actress from Martin Scorsese's first film was hit by THREE CARS before she died in 2012 -- one of which dragged her 600 feet ... and her husband is now suing everyone involved in the accident.

Zina Bethune's husband Sean is suing Independent Taxi, one of its cabbies, as well as two other drivers ... claiming it's their fault Zina was killed on Forest Lawn Drive on February 12, 2012.

Zina -- who starred in Scorsese's 1967 debut film "Who's That Knocking at My Door" -- had just exited her car to help an injured animal on the side of the road ... and Sean recounts the tragedy that unfolded.

According to Sean, a taxi driver immediately collided with Zina, causing his left side view mirror to break. Sean says the driver left Zina in the middle lane of traffic while he retrieved his mirror, failing to assist Zina in any capacity as she lay in the roadway.

Soon after, Sean claims Zina was hit by a second car ... which dragged her body 600 feet.

At that point, Sean says a THIRD car then ran over Zina ... and when that driver pulled over, she noticed the taxi driver attempting to leave the scene ... so she blocked him. Zina didn't survive the accidents.

It's heartbreaking -- Sean's now suing for wrongful death, medical expenses, loss of love and affection, funeral expenses ... demanding unspecified damages. Calls to Independent Taxi weren't returned.

This whole situation is sad and I don't want to come off as insensitive but isn't it kind of her fault for getting out of the car on a busy street... Isn't that considered jay walking? I mean you can't hold up a street because you put your own self at risk and others. Which clearly happened.

Yes, she will be declared somewhat responsible, but the taxi driver was obliged to immediately come to her aid rather than leaving her lying in the road while he retrieved his mirror.

Sometimes, no good deed goes unpunished. Doesn't make any sense how she'd be able to try and block the taxi driver after being run over twice and dragged 600 feet. I mean, she wasn't the terminator. Just awful for her family. Terrible when a great person goes out in such a way.

I didn't know Zina Bethune had died. She was a wonderful soap actress. RIP.

Even if the first driver were found culpable, I cannot see the other drivers also being held culpable. A body flies out of nowhere in front of your car, you cannot do much, or even in the case of the dragging, he might not have even realized she was under his car.

Sad the first driver didn't full filled his responsibilities as a driver after hitting someone and she would not have gotten hit the second or third time.

Yes, she should not have gotten in the busy street, but she had a kind heart and wanted to help an injured creature. Not many people now a days do anything.
