Philip Seymour Hoffman's Will

Keep My Son Away from Hollywood

Philip Seymour Hoffman
's dying wish was to keep his children far, far away from Hollywood -- this according to the actor's will.

TMZ obtained a copy of PSH's will -- drawn up in 2004 -- and according to the document, Hoffman requested that his son Cooper (back then his only child) be raised in Manhattan ... in order to be surrounded by the culture, arts, and architecture of the city.

If NYC turned out to be impossible, Hoffman asked for his son to be raised in Chicago or San Francisco. And if that didn't work out either, Hoffman wanted his son to visit these cities at least TWICE per year ... for cultural purposes.

The glaring omission on his list is obviously Los Angeles -- interesting because Hoffman was a big time Hollywood actor who spent lots of time in L.A.

Clearly, he didn't think it was a suitable city to raise a kid in.

As for the entirety of his estate, Hoffman left the whole shebang to his longtime partner and the mother of his 3 children, Mimi O'Donnell.

I have no love loss for PSH, as a father, he should have stayed or gone to a rehab facility for his kids. Now because of his selfish ways, his children have to grow up without a father. Shame on him.

I have no love loss for PSH, as a father, he should have committed himself to treatment for his kids. Now they get to grow up without a father because of his selfishness. Shame on him for not being a real man.

Expressing a preference for certain cities certainly isn't the same as saying you don't want your kid to live in a city you didn't mention. He didn't say "keep my son away from Hollywood" any more than "keep my son away from France." Pretty stupid reasoning if you ask me.

Good LA and Hollywood is garbage. And don't blame NY for him being a drug addict after being exposed to the Hollywood lifestyle.

Shouldn't he have said "Keep my son away from drugs."

Read Bret Easton Ellis book "Less Than Zero" and watch Robert Downey, and James Spader in the movie of the same name. That is Hollywood.

Didn't he die in NEW YORK with a needle stuck in his arm? Don't bash California folks. He made his own made decisions, not the State's fault.

What a low life. Now it's hollywood's fault he's a junkie. Maybe his kids will should have a phrase about not sticking a spike in your arm, especially when you're not sure what's in it. Oh, and, by the way. You brought me into this worlds so why don't you stick around and be sure I'll grow up before you go off and kill yourself.

Creative Headlining TMZ? Omitting LA said all of that "Keep my son away from Hollywood"? Quit glamorizing the addict, I don't think he should have been featured on the cover of People. I understand it's a tragedy and his kids and family are hurting but let's face it people he killed himself with heroin. I don't think any city is inherently evil, it is nothing more than what you do in whatever city. Do you think there are no children raised right in LA that become productive people? I'm sure a lot of celebrities that live in Hollywood would disagree that their children werem't raised properly.
What a snob! San Fran, Chicago and NYC so yeah why don't you put the kid up in your drug loft because NYC is just one of the least corrupt places in the world, why not put that he should be made to go to Mardi Gras every year to get the culture in New Orleans. Move on TMZ, it's old already

Just because Hoffman couldn't control his addiction and abuse of heroin had nothing to do with Hollywood. One only has to look at Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Ben Affleck, Gerard Butler, Bradley Cooper, Craig Ferguson, Rob Lowe... sober all... just to name a few! And let's not forget, Hoffman committed suicide by lethal injection in NEW YORK CITY.
