Dead at 82

Casey Kasem Dead
Casey Kasem -- the original voice of the American Top 40 countdown -- died Sunday morning ... TMZ has confirmed.

His daughter Kerri said on Facebook this morning ... her dad was surrounded by family and friends. adding, "Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken."

Casey was suffering from advanced Parkinson's Disease and dementia. His wife Jean Kasem moved him to a convalescent home in Santa Monica a few months ago.

Kasem founded the "AT 40" radio franchise back in 1970 ... and famously hosted the wildly popular show until 2004. He went on to do several spinoff countdown shows until he retired from radio in 2009.

He was also very famous for voicing cartoon voices like Shaggy from "Scooby-Doo" ... and Robin on "Super Friends." He was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1985.

Casey's illness was marked by a bitter war between Jean and Casey's three children from his previous marriage. The kids claimed Jean blocked them from seeing Casey for several months.

Earlier in the week Kerri took her dad off of all life support including nutrition.

Casey was 82.

He was not starved to death!! When you have a old or the flu, are u hungry? No.. WhEn you're dying and shutting down you don't need food or nutrition cuz you're body can't process it anyway. IV fluids pool in the lungs cuz the heart is shutting down and can't pump it thru the body. Not too mention if you did try to feed him he'd probably choke from weakness. Tube feelings are cruel in his case. Quality of life not quantity!!! RIP Mr Kasem

Real sad that his family basically euthanized him.

Looks like Jean was right to keep the kids from their father. Once they got control, they basically killed him. RIP Casey. So sorry it ended this way.

I would be very upset if him already half dead and my family knew that I was slowly dying with absolutely no hope. I would want them to pull the plug. Don't make me suffer, its not loving. I know it was a very hard decision for them to do. But for him, it was the best thing. Rip

He was not 'starves to death' as you yahoos want to put it. His organs were shutting down and were unable to process the nourishment-he was drowning in it. They did not withhold pain meds so he was comfortable and felt nothing. Until you have been through this, you have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps the fist-sized, infected bedsore his wife allowed to happen was the bigger problem.

Rest in peace Mr. Kasem and condolences to the family. Always enjoyed America's Top 40. It's how me and my sister learned who sang what songs~! THAT being said, the one person who is missing from all of this - as for not saying or uttering ONE WORD - is douchebag RYAN SEACREST. He took over Mr. Kasem's programs and it's what help catapult him to the top to make the big bucks. And what has he said? NOTHING. Ryan Seacrest, creator of the KarTRASHian crew - IS A CLOSET CASE.

Let me ask those of you insisting his children killed him by starving him to death:
What kind of life would you call at 82 years old, confined to a bed, covered in infected bed sores, with a tube up your ass so you can poop, a tube up your willy so you can pee, a tube down your throat to have food forcefully pumped into your stomach, and needles and tubes connected to your arms pumping in liquids to keep you hydrated? Technically, he is still alive, yes. But is that a life worth living?
What kind of miracle were people hoping for by keeping all of those needles and tubes in his body, pumping him full of nourishment and liquids while pumping out feces and urine? Keep those tubes connected for another week and he'll magically jump out of bed doing the Charleston, acting like a 40 year old?
It is sad for a legend to die, but at least one can take solace in the fact that his passing was not drawn out longer than it needed to be.

His kids KILLED HIM. I don't care how sick a person remove water and nutrition from them is cruel and painful. Just think of how much your stomach hurts when you haven't eaten. Now multiply that by days and being sick and weak. That's MURDER folks..and there is legislation being introduced to stop this cruel tactic that was created by INSURANCE COMPANIES to not have to pay for a sick person more than they have the cost of great suffering by the patient.

Rest in peace Mr. Kasem. And Mrs. Jean Kasem..I hope you make these god-awful children pay in court.
