Aaliyah Biopic

Lead Star Drops Out of Movie

Following Family Protest

Exclusive Details

Zendaya Drops Out Of Aaliyah MovieDisney channel star Zendaya Coleman has officially dropped out of Lifetime's planned biopic about Aaliyah ... on the heels of the deceased singer's family speaking out against the flick.

Zendaya's rep says she's no longer involved with the project ... and sources close to the production say a whole bunch of factors played a part including the negative reaction from Aaliyah's family.

For now, Lifetime says production has been put on hold.

As we previously reported, Aaliyah's uncle/former manager told us no one from the network contacted them before announcing the movie. They believe Aaliyah deserves big screen treatment.

So far, Lifetime hasn't said if they're gonna fill the role ... or cease production on the movie.

I don't find her family to be "greedy" at all. They knew her best and should have been involved in the casting and production every step of the way. Speaking as a huge fan, Aaliyah wasn't just anyone, or even a one-hit wonder. She was a rising star who would be silencing the likes of many female artists today had she not been killed. A movie on the big screen (Lifetime? For real?) would do her memory and her talent justice. Everything about her as a person and an artist was way too cool for this whole thing to play out so I'm not surprised with the outcome.

Sorry she's out but she wasn't the one for the movie... Lisa Tucker from season 5 American Idol would be better for the movie if they are looking for someone who looks like Aaliyah...

I believe there's more to the story as to exactly why the family is protesting. Such as the fact that she married a grown man (R.Kelly) at the age of 15 and he was later accused of child molestation (or sleeping with underage girls same s***). It was also rumored that she had a sexual relationship before, during, or after her very public relationship with his then best friend/business partner Damon Dash. These are things her family more than likely doesn't want to come out on ANY screen, big or small, tarnishing her image

Seems to me that her family has the same affliction as Sherri Shepherd's husband, where they feel the celebrity they're related to is a lot bigger than they actually are/were.

AND...the family is also apprehensive about how her death would be depicted. Would the movie show how she pulled her "diva" card on the pilot of the chartered flight and told him she wouldn't leave her luggage that exceeded the weight limit subsequently causing not only her death but the death of several others smh

Don't get me wrong Aaliyah was cool but she was NO WHITNEY HOUSTON!
The family should be glad that the likes of Life Time is even interested in her at all!
Everyone knew the truth about her and R. Kelly! It's no secret! I guess the family wish that it was...

Zendaya didn't need the drama anyway! It may mess up her image anyway!

I think she would have been fine in the part. But, if the family is going to cause problems, it's not worth it.

that girl happened to tragically die during her hit phase, had she not died then who knows what she would've been now, maybe some forgotten housewife who once had a hit
so for the family to diss ANY movie being made of her, they are ungrateful, big screen are for BIG stars, not for beginners who happened to die during early fame

Highly doubt that I'll be paying 15 dollars to a movie theater to see a movie about Aaliyah. Go head I can wait for it to go on Netflix.

I feel bad for Zendaya, she's a nice girl and has potential. She needs something to do, other than be a pretty face, before she contracts former Disney Staritis and goes crazy.
