Stephen A. Smith

For Domestic Violence Remarks

7/29/2014 1:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

ESPN is yanking Stephen A. Smith off the air -- suspending him for the inflammatory comments he made about women and domestic violence last week.

The network says Smith will not appear on his show "First Take" or on ESPN Radio until next Wednesday. During a discussion about Ray Rice's suspension, Stephen A. said he would tell women to make sure they're not doing anything "to provoke wrong actions" ... in addition to telling men what NOT to do.

This morning on "First Take" Smith apologized -- and ESPN released a statement, saying ... “We will continue to have constructive dialogue on this important topic. Stephen’s comments last Friday do not reflect our company’s point of view."

The network continued ... "As his apology demonstrates, he recognizes his mistakes and has a deeper appreciation of our company values.”

Smith's comments also infuriated fellow ESPN anchor Michelle Beadle. She's yet to react to his suspension.

What he said is right. Women think they can beat on men and het away with it. If you hit someone you better be prepared to be hit back.

For everyone that is upset over his comments, are you saying it is ok for women to hit men? As usual, the media takes a portion of someones comments, blow it up and causes a mess. He stated that it was not ok for a man to hit a woman, but there are some women that will hit a man, wheres the outrage over that?

There is no audio on the videos
You are only talking about this because he is famous
But his lawyer did what slime lawyers do and say marry her she cant testify against you
Espn still employs Ray Lewis and if he also didnt play football he would be in prison for being the director of a murder
So Stephens opinion gets him punished yet Ray can blab and blab and blab

First off he is right I am a firm believer in treat others like you want to be treated. These females run up guys like they can't get hit. Or have hands put on them. I'm here to tell you if you act like a lady and he treats you like a punching bag then he's wrong but if you act like a boxer then prepare to take a hit not saying a man should beat her down. But you damn sure better get that broad off you.

boo boo

What is even more offensive is that Michelle Beadle passes as a "sports" reporter. She should go back to interviewing Amish reality personalities. Ramona Shelburn is the only female sports journalist worth listening to...the other twits make the rest of us actual female sports junkies look stupid.

I personally don't feel sorry for the girl. She was stupid enough to marry him after he knocked her out. And he will do it again

I'm really disappointed with Steven A Smith but however he has apologized for his comments . I think he some how got lost in his words and actually dug a hole for him self . But the fact to the matter is that it is never ok to ever hit a woman , women do know how to push a man's but it is always important for the man to walk away , because he will get angry and not think clearly and end up making a big mistake by taking out his frustration. If a woman hits a man or tries to , it is better to walk away from her and leave this woman along because it isn't worth ever being in any relationship if either one has to strike the other it is only going to get worse. A man should respect his woman as he would his mother , if mom makes him made just say what you need to but walk away if it involves any physical contact.

I actually liked the apology. I don't know if he meant it, but he did sell it. I'm glad that the network made him do it.

This shows the moral decay in this country, first the food police tell us what we should eat and the speech police punish you for speaking your opinion. American people better wake up before ALL your freedoms are gone. Don't think it cannot happen in this country, we are being managed from birth to grave by this corrupt government and the media.

FINALLY, espn suspended this "male jerk" for his inappropriate comments. He needs to watch his mouth before he says something that will get his FULGY face slapped by someone.

You are witnessing karma at its best! Right or wrong, he's the one being judged. (Like he does so many athletes)
