Wizards Apologize for April Fools' Prank, Fan Knew He Didn't Win $10,000!
Wizards Sorry For April Fools' Prank ... Skit Happens!!!
The Washington Wizards are apologizing for an April Fools' prank that left folks more pissed than amused ... claiming everyone involved in the skit knew it was staged.
The team made it seem as if a random fan named Jackson had a chance at winning $10K during a break in the action Wednesday night -- all he had to do was nail a half-court shot while blindfolded.
Unfortunately for him, he missed -- but the MC and the mascots all acted like he drilled the shot ... and Jackson seemed pretty convinced.
When he was told to watch the replay of the shot, he learned that his attempt was nowhere near the basket ... and that his wallet was not going to get a whole lot beefier.
Jackson seemed to take it in stride, but people online were not happy with the stunt.
"This is an insane thing to do to someone who willingly attends a Wizards game," one fan wrote.
"Imagine getting trolled by the worst team in the league," another wrote.
The backlash got so loud, the Wizards had to admit the whole thing was staged ... and Jackson was a plant.
"We apologize for last night's April Fools' joke that left many wondering if we had misled a fan," the team said. "The skit involving our mascot and other members of our performance team was scripted and intended to celebrate the day."
"All participants were in on the joke, but we missed the mark. Our fans are our priority, and we continue to be committed to providing a positive experience to all who attend our games."
To make matters worse, the Wizards would go on to lose the game to the Philadelphia 76ers by a final score of 153-131.
