Borat Lawsuit -- High Five!!!

How's this for the beginning of a lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court? -- "Sacha Baron Cohen is a prankster."Click to view documents

Two anonymous plaintiffs are suing 20th Century Fox and One America Productions, claiming members of their college fraternity were interviewed to become part of the smash "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" film.

The plaintiffs -- listed as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2 -- were allegedly assured the film would not be shown in the U.S. and their identities would not be revealed.

They were both selected to appear in the movie and, according to the suit, taken "to a drinking establishment 'to loosen up' and provided alcoholic beverages." They claim they signed the movie releases after "heavy drinking."

The suit claims both men were then taken to a motor home where they were filmed, all the while "encouraged to continue drinking."

The movie features a scene in a motor home where Cohen gets drunk with three frat boys who go on a racist rant about how they wished they had slaves and how minorities in the United States "have all the power."

According to the lawsuit, the frat boys only received $200 for the controversial appearance.

The plaintiffs claim they suffered "humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional and physical distress, loss of reputation, goodwill and standing in the community..." because the movie was indeed released in the U.S.

The suit asks for unspecified damages.

Calls to 20th Century Fox were not immediately returned.

91. No one including Mel Gibson says things they don't really mean at one level or another, when they're drunk. Try to fool yourselves if you want but most of us know what it's like to get drunk. And so we know it's a lie to say you had no control over your mouth while you were intoxicated.

92. These guys are over 18 and at the time probably thought they were having the times of their lives. They need to take it like the men they are - NOT!

93. Alcohol = impaired judgement = stupidity

This is a lesson so many frat kids try so hard to learn the hard way.

If I read this story right, they knew they were going to be in a movie BEFORE they started drinking so.. the makers of Borat are pretty much free and clear of any criminal charges because even while heavily intoxicated, you are held directly responsible for your behavior. Ask anyone that's been busted for DUI.

As for a civil suit, no idea, but I would hope that it wouldn't get anywhere.. we've already seen too much foolish litigation as it is..

94. You guys defending frats are really self righteous douches along with the others.
It certainly does take one to know one, and I know there IS indeed something to the stereotyoe.
Im not calling every frat boy an a**hole-There are some nice catches.

During my undergrad, there were a series of arrests in the Frat houses for Rohypnol distribution not to mention date raping freshman at Parties.

Also my boyfriend, who lived in a Frat house at Northeastern University mentioned the amount of homosexual initiation hazing. Luckily, he was only housing there temporarily, he didnt live there, but witnessed what went on.

There is definitely something not right with MANY Fratboy attitudes

95. It's the lawsuit that makes it clear that they meant what they said!

Without it, it just looks like either tasteless screenwriting or "guys gone wild" for the camera.

96. To Shananigans, who said everyone who is truthful when drunk except when they drunk dial:

What kind of drugs are you on? It is commonly known that alcohol is referred to liquid truth, or liquid Balls which means that it causes you to blurt out something you would never say or do something you would never do when youre sober. Why is drunk dialing an exception to the rule?

Thats the most retarded statement Ive ever heard

wouldn't call a Country a C**t would you? Second Fraternity men have

99. i thought the point was to show a view espoused by certain sections of males and about how they treat women, and views of cultures of which they know little or nothing about, not just fraternity, and although if encouraged then he was playing on insecurity's but surely it was just attempting again for the medium of film to tackle such views, do they really think they are ever going to have a successful relationship and hopefully i lesson learnt for both of them, it is a question of whether these views can be changed? as the rest of the film was to show what views of reality people had, but giving opinions on such little information about the sketch such as whether it was scripted. to what extent they were coerced is hard enough on its own, but i have to say if it was put on film and as somebody mentioned before the contract they signed would've been bulletproof so i can't see if being successful

100. Zone, I think you need to calm down before your head explodes.

I think most guys when they are in college are total asses. These 2 are no exception. Why do you think that no one ever says "college men"? Its because they will always be termed: College Boys, for a reason

1st of all, Frat is a commonly wide accepted nickname for a fraternity-Why is it all the sudden so sensitive?
2nd-all these high and noble Congress members and Supreme Court Justices you speak of-may belong to a greek honor society as well. You can get those with a high grade point average, it doesnt mean you are belong to a fraternity or sorority.. I belong to Alpha Mu Alpha, given to marketing grads with a high GPA but that doesnt make me a sorority girl-I assure you I was NOT.

Like I said, there are a lot of good members but then there are a lot of not so nice members. One of my friends who was a member of Sigma Chi, had to drink goat blood for initiation.

how can you deny any illegal activity that goes on at Frat houses?

These boys deserve to lose this lawsuit... All it took for them to become total pigs was some beer. they were the epitomy and poster boys for drunken college boys in America.

Now they wanna sue as if they were Rape victims. Yeah right. I think its kind of a funny twist considering the amount of girls at my college that got doped up at frat parties

A Lesson to these boys:

"They didnt Say no!"

101. as someone who used to be in a fraternity I can say that was far from teh first time any of those guys has acted like that. sue away. its no ones fault but your own you that show your true colors while drunk.

102. These guys are fools. The movie was being promoted for the last 2 months; and they are just now saying something about being shown in the film?!
I guess this is the NEW American way to make money.

103. The frat kids were stupid, but they should get more than $200 and should sue Borat for every buck they can get.

104. #106 NEW? Honey, suing people has been the American Way since the 1970's. Americans are a lazy bunch of bloodsuckers and would rather ruin Wendy's with someone's missing finger than work a f**king job. These guys are no different. They see cars and naked women without working for it in their future.

105. #107 Why? The makers of Borat cannot go back and give more money to EVERYONE who had a hand in making the movie. At the time, they agreed to be a part of something that was being created. No one new if it would be released, or even be a success. If they give more $ to the boys, they have to do it for all of the participants. Can't be done Sugar. That's why they sign waivers before they get inserted into the fim or hit the cutting room floor.
