Borat Lawsuit

High Five!!!

11/9/2006 9:26 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

How's this for the beginning of a lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court? -- "Sacha Baron Cohen is a prankster."

Two anonymous plaintiffs are suing 20th Century Fox and One America Productions, claiming members of their college fraternity were interviewed to become part of the smash "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" film.

The plaintiffs -- listed as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2 -- were allegedly assured the film would not be shown in the U.S. and their identities would not be revealed.

They were both selected to appear in the movie and, according to the suit, taken "to a drinking establishment 'to loosen up' and provided alcoholic beverages." They claim they signed the movie releases after "heavy drinking."

The suit claims both men were then taken to a motor home where they were filmed, all the while "encouraged to continue drinking."

The movie features a scene in a motor home where Cohen gets drunk with three frat boys who go on a racist rant about how they wished they had slaves and how minorities in the United States "have all the power."

According to the lawsuit, the frat boys only received $200 for the controversial appearance.

The plaintiffs claim they suffered "humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional and physical distress, loss of reputation, goodwill and standing in the community..." because the movie was indeed released in the U.S.

The suit asks for unspecified damages.

Calls to 20th Century Fox were not immediately returned.

Those frat boys are such losers. Its about time someone took advantage of them. Just think about all those people they probably got drunk and took advantage of. Serves them right! By the way, Borat rocks.

Honestly, let's look at this. Girls get drunk all the time and get lured to take their clothes off for Girls Gone Wild and of course, sign the release while being intoxicated. The girl later realizes what she has done and can't really take it back. The guys just need to get over it, there are worse things in life.

Taking the money before even reading all of the papers they signed. OH, sure I'll do this for 200 bucks! Greedy then, greedy now. Your fault for not reading the fine print.

I have NO sympathy for these jerks.
Alcohol CANNOT put ideas into your head that weren't there to begin with; all it can do is remove the inhibitions that keep you from saying things that you know would be unpopular. The fact that Sacha Baron Cohen filmed these guys making complete asses of themselves is no grounds for a suit. These guys did not have to keep drinking, they did not have to shoot their mouths off, and they did not have to say such nasty sexist garbage...but they did. They chose to. They have no one to blame but themselves. I'm sick and tired of whiny little people not taking responsibility for their own actions.
Grow up already you stupid little turds.

I would have PAID to be in the movie as one of the frat boys. DUMB A$$E$!!
Dont they realize how funny and popular the movie is and how funny they were? They can capitalize by getting acting jobs!! He did them a FAVOR!

those fine fraternity brothers got what they had coming to them. like the other comments, anger and hatred like that have to come from somewhere and alcohol isn't an excuse for racist, bigoted remarks. at least we know if they do win the law suit, they will have a massive kegger, complete with an all dave matthews soundtrack and plenty of sodomizing activities with lacrosse sticks. sorry cant make it :(. 2006 mo fo's non frat boyz fo' life!

The funny thing is that they claimed they were duped because Cohen told them the video would not be shown in the US. As if if no one they know hears their drunken, ignorant, racist tirade that makes it OK. These guys need to grow up and realize that THEY did the drinking, THEY decided to say the things they said in front of cameras, and THEY accepted a measely couple hundred dollars for their time. Any moron can tell you that if you say something you shouldn't on film, it could very-well come back and bite you

You cannot go around the country misrepresenting yourself and tricking people into getting drunk for a movie that stands to draw huge crowds. Why didn't they just hire actors like other movie companies? Because they wanted a record low budget with huge profits? They should pay the frat boys AND the Romanians that were tricked into bringing livestock into their homes AND whoever else was wronged. I haven't seen the movie -- I don't want to contribute to their royalties.

Sure you can, there's no law against it. Ever watch one of those hidden-camera shows? How about Punk'd? Cohen can tell them whatever he wants, they knew they were being filmed, they drank the alcohol voluntarily, they said what they said voluntarily. They don't use actors because if you've ever seen any of Cohen's other work, it's just not that funny when the people are in on the joke. His brand of humor has always worked best with unsuspecting individuals who just give their honest reaction, and that's exactly what those frat boys did.

"To all of the negative comments about us frat guys: You are all broke bitches and are too much of a loser to ever be in a frat in the first place. We get all the p***y and you don't. "

Such a typical frat-fag response.
BTW.. The stuff you refer to as p***y is not p***y.
It's called a playgirl magazine and your hand.
Go do some more drugs and go through life thinking that you are actually liked by others. It doesn't mean your frat buddies really like you, just because you jack them off.

You know what? It doesn't matter if they are frat guys or wall street tycoons, the fact of the matter is they were stupid enough to get drunk, wait I mean TOTALLY WASTED and say a bunch of ignorant racist sh*t on camera. Don't feel bad for these guys, if anything they made frat boys look bad and all his "brothers" should be kicking their asses right now. Even if they do sue, they won't win. Any movie that can be shown in Europe can be shown here. Didn't these guys hear of DVD's? The Internet maybe? Did they really think that the movie had no way of making it over here? Because that is what they would basically have to prove in order to have a chance to win this suit. They would also have to prove that they signed those movie releases AFTER they got drunk. On top of all that, they have to prove that Sasha did something that voided the release they signed. That's not gonna happen so these guys are SOOOOOO screwed.
