Kate Walsh Scores in Divorce Settlement

2/5/2010 4:55 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Kate Walsh has settled her nasty divorce with Alex Young, and Kate did pretty well for herself ... sources tell TMZ.

Kate Walsh: Click to watch
We got this video of the "Private Practice" star leaving court late yesterday with her lawyer, disso queen Laura Wasser. Walsh and Young were in court all day hashing out the settlement.

Here's what TMZ knows: Alex wanted several million bucks, but according to the court documents, he ended up with $627,000 for his share of the community property. Alex wanted spousal support but was shut down by the judge. Kate gets the house. They split the artwork and furniture.

Alex also gets half the residuals for the "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" episodes Kate filmed while they were married.

There are mutual restraining orders prohibiting each from harassing the other.

Mind you ... they only lived together as husband and wife for 14 months.

Sounds like the guy was angry about all the rumors about Kate, maybe he realized they were true after they were married and he was just a man on her arm. Still, I think he should be treated like a woman gets in the case of divorce settlements. I don't think they deserve all that much in a short marriage either. He got what he deserved, it was fair... a lot of money.
Remember this judgment when a woman gets divorced from a male star.

um, no thanks

When judges clearly treat men differently from women the men's attorneys should file complaints and have a review board look it over.
If all the facts were exactly the same and Wasser were representing the husband I bet she would be furious right now.

Because celebrities benefit from being married financially and the few that actually do benefit outside of finance are usually very quite about their personal life. Then one day someone breaks into and tries to exploit them.

The problem is that rich guys usually marry women/beauty queen (trophy wife) types that don't have the ability to go out and get a job and earn money to support themselve and that's why they end up having to take care of them for the rest of their lives. Only when a rich woman marries a bum (Britney and K-Fed) does she end up supporting him.

No spousal support?
Most men get hosed in divorces if they're the bread winners.
Yes this biatch walks away smelling like a rose.
It should work both ways.

# 2 you asked why people get married, I don't know for sure. One thing is for sure, that the bible tells them too. The bible I think was written by people and these people who run to church, even though Jesus had no church, but preached under the sky. These people say, you have to get married, or you live in sin. Americans should make up their own minds, but most of us, think about what their neighbors, their friends and society as a whole think. Which is stupid, think free and be happier.

The law should not use factors like race or gender to tip the scales.
If the sex's were different this would probably raise some eyebrows of piers.

why does the media always seem to side with the woman on everything. They only lived together for 14 months? who cares, if this was the other way around it would be a huge story if a woman only got this much (see kelis). complete b.s. trust me, if it was the other way there is no way the woman doesn't get spousal support

Are you kidding? He got a handsome and generous settlement. Half the residuals from the time they were married? Just look at how well James Van Der Beek did with his residuals.

This guy, Alex, will be sitting pretty for years and can easily make it through this long-term recession. He may not have destroyed Walsh, but he certainly took her to the cleaners.

If she was a man, she would have been taken to the cleaners, 14 months or not.

Alex Young is a movie executive, so wouldn't he be making a lot of money on his own?? Don't executives get paid more than actors? I don't know, maybe some do and some don't.

I would take him back to court. There is no way I would pay a man all that because we were married.

She messed up by getting married to begin with. When things are going well, do not get married. It'll muck everything up.

There wouldn't be a need for restraining orders if he would be a MAN. They don't have kids so he should get a damn job and support himself. She shouldn't be required to support the lifestyle that she paid for all along when they were only married for 14 months.
