For the first time since filing legal documents to end her domestic partnership with Tammy Lynn Michaels two weeks ago, Melissa Etheridge emerged in Manhattan on Friday.
Earlier this week, an L.A. County Superior Court judge ruled Melissa did not have to pay her ex an additional $25K because the Grammy-winning singer is paying for all of Tammy's and their children's bills. Both Melissa and Tammy are fighting for custody of their twins.
The next hearing is set for September.

What I really want to know is this: would the Judge's ruling have been the same if the couple were not same sex?

Melissa should have no rights to the twins since she it was Tammy that carried the twins for the entire 9 months. If the judge is fair, Melissa should only get visitation and support them since she wants to be a part of the kids lives.

Since the judge ruled she is paying all of Tammy's bills, what more could Tammy want? Also if she is paying all of Tammy's bills, that has to be more than 4 dollars.
I do feel for Tammy but this should not be in public. She is hurting and lashing out.

#5 yes it would have been different.
First this says that Melissa is paying the kids schools, the food, the house payment, upkeep. So basically this would add up to child support. It does not say she is providing a spousal support type payment to Tammy each month, which would be for up to 1/2 the length of the marriage or relationship.
The Judge cut Tammy down on that, big time. I do not believe the Judge has his wits about him on that one. Spousal support is for the mate, who has been raising the kids, hasnt worked, been a homeaker and needs the additional funds for herself, hair cuts, clothes, household items etc.
I think 25k is a bit much, no alot much at this point, but I could see 5k to 10k as a must for this initial hearing.
Melissa does not want to pay a Spousal Support type amount directly to Tammy for some reason. Which is against what she preaches with her whole gay marriage, gay rights fights. Hyporctital to say the least. She is willing to provide for the kids, which is the roof over their head, school, clothes, food, but not a dime directly to Tammy who has nothing else.
Sounds kind of like a slave woman caring for the land owners children he begot with her. He gives them food and clothes and thats it, but the slave still takes care of the kids.
I would love to be the Judge in this case Melissa, I would tear you apart!
