Family Rips 'Transformers' Investigation - 'Ridiculous'

10/13/2010 5:55 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The family of the woman partially paralyzed on the set of "Transformers 3" is blasting the government agency that cleared producers of any wrongdoing ... claiming their findings are "ridiculous."

1013_osha_BN_01

In a statement issued today, the family of 24-year-old Gabriela Cedillo said they were "deeply saddened and disappointed" that the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration cleared Paramount simply because they used a licensed welder to set up a vehicular stunt on Sept. 1.

The family claims, "The mere fact that the welding was performed by a 'certified welder' ... does not in any way suggest that the weld was performed properly." The family continues, "In fact the evidence is clear that it was done in a slip-shod fashion."

The statement concludes, "It is completely irresponsible for even a local government bureaucrat to rush to such sloppy conclusions."

Right, tragedies occasionally happen during filming. And that's why production companies carry indemnity insurance while filming movies.

Carl's a moron. **** happens but that doesn't mean people are supposed to just take it up the ass when it does.

Jesus some of you are stupid!

"Unless there is some evidence the welder did a half arsed job, the family should just accept she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and something unfortunate happened."

How do they find out if the welder did a half-assed job other than challenging him and the safety considerations in court?

SoThere

It's always about the M O N E Y.
It was an accident but if people can sue and
benefit off someone's misfortune, well hell, let's
sue and make a ton of money! What a shame.
People think money will solve all their problems. DUH.

Really? Well then why aren't you going after the welder instead of paramount as a blanket???

oh *I* know! because pararmount has MORE $$$!!!

that's what it's all about, take a tragic ACCIDENT and turn it into a million dollar lawsuit adventure

Terrible accident, but exactly that, an accident. Should she be able to sue the studio for negligence - no. The studio however would not go broke if they compensated her and her family and might actually get some positive press and public relations. However, we do not live in a Shirley Temple every thing is gosh-o-golly-gee world; so the studio will not give one cent, and the family will try to sue. This young lady will be forgotten by both sides. At times like this, you could wish for a world without money.

all about the money

@CGS

"Someone needs to pay, and they need to pay big!"

And that is the problem in America now. OMG I ordered HOT coffee then split it on myself and it was HOT...I'm gonna sue!!!

Yes its horrible the lady got hurt, and as I have said before hopefully she is being compensated. The problem with being an extra...probably no medical insurance since only a temporary employee. Its terrible she is partially paralyzed now but seems like some in her family didn't see the accident for the tragedy it is but a BIG paycheck. Wow Transformers 3...huge film with lots of money we gonna be rich.

yes this is very much a soap box post. Tragedy apart its all too common for people to sue for outrageous amounts at the slightest discomfort. Again does not really apply in this case since she is half paralyzed but so many frivolous lawsuits over the last 10-20 years insurance companies protect themselves now. I bet at some point some inspector will say she was negligent somehow (missed a mark, stopped in wrong place who knows what will be claimed) all to attempt to shift blame away from their client so they don't have to pay. Greed is making it so when a real accident happens people are so gun shy about being sued that they have provisions in place to deflect blame and high priced lawyers to protect their interest.

No joke recently in my area there was a malpractice lawsuit against a doctor the did a surgery. OMG I had surgery and the doctor cut me...I'm gonna sue!! Pretty much what it came down to. Person that had surgery was told they would have a 1 to 2 inch scar after the surgery. After being measured the patient actually had a 3 almost 4 inch scar and sued the doctor for malpractice because her scar was bigger than she was told it would be. Crap like this is why medical cost are so high (to off set the malpractice insurance) and people looking to get rich quick.

Again very sorry for the lady involved. Hopefully her medical is being covered by the studio (least they could do). Long term compensation since her life will obviously be different from here out will hopefully be provided but they just got to figure out who is at most fault if anyone is. Accidents happen sadly but too often something this tragic is seen as a payday by family and friends.

Let’s just finish that statement with what they really mean, shall we? “Deeply saddened and disappointed that this will make it harder to get the millions and millions we want from Paramount just because we can.”

Everyone understands that this is a HUGE tragety for this girl and how sad her life is permamently altered however the point is that you have to go after the welder/welding compnay not Paramount. I understand that the insurance rider there may not be as "deep" as Paramount but this is the fact. Paramount follwed the process as mandated by law, if anything was "shoddy" it was the fault of the welding company and its employee. Sorry if you won't get the payout you feel you deserve.

SUE SUE SUE>>>the new americanway!

I'm terribly sorry for her injuries, but if it wasn't about getting a buttload of free money, they would have a lawsuit with the welders, NOT the production company. Not to mention they are paying her medical bills...GREED. SOrry but that seems to have replaced oxygen with some people....they all run on greed now!
