The Quaids' Arrest Could Mean Death for Doggie

10/26/2010 9:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

There was a third Quaid in the car when Evi and Randy were arrested in Canada last week ... their beloved pooch Doji ... and TMZ has learned he could pay for his master's sins ... with his life.

Quaids arrested.

While Evi and Randy are still "in detention" after being nabbed on an active arrest warrant ... we've learned Doji has been placed in an animal shelter in Vancouver for the time being.

But Doji's days could be numbered -- because according to Vancouver law, any dog that has been impounded for more than 72 hours becomes city property ... and the pound keeper is then given the authority to "destroy, or sell by auction or private sale, an impounded dog."

We spoke to someone at Animal Control in Vancouver who told us they "make every effort to not put the dogs to sleep" ... and generally try to find the animals a home through adoption.

Still, look at this face (the one on the left) ... someone better act fast.

One of "them"

We don't euthanize healthy, adoptable dogs, ever. The 72 hour rule simply means that a dog becomes "property' of the city and can be put up for adoption at that point. In reality, applications for adoption can begin to be taken after 72 hours, but dogs are kept for ten days, in order to give the dog's humans time to redeem him/her, and to allow lots of potential homes to meet the dog, hopefully making a great match possible. If there are no appropriate applications in that ten day span, the dog stays at the shelter until a great home is found. He/She gets walked numerous times each day by volunteer walkers, and gets at least three half hour sessions in one of the play yards.

vancouver's animal control has the reputation of being extremely harsh ... don't be too sure they won't follow the bylaws exactly as laid out. somebody better move fast.

The law is the same in most animal shelters in Canada and America alike. It doesn't mean the dog will be euthanized. I think they're trying to sensationalize this a little bit, but I'm still glad it was published - This dog needs and deserves a stable, loving home.

Let's hope that our Friends to the North do not allow this to happen to this innocent dog. He didn't do anything wrong, it was his owners fault. These two (2) NUT JOBS, obviously, do not have any of their faculties left and this innocent dog should not have to pay the ultimate price for his owners - STUPIDITY! I hope that TMZ pays attention to the posters that are interested in helping rescue this dog from a situation HE DIDN'T CREATE! :^)

TMZ, exploiting this dog for money. Yes. Make a donation to A.S.P.C.A for the millions of other animals that need help.
