The Girl

Demi Lovato Punched

11/4/2010 1:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Demi Lovato's decision to seek treatment came after she punched a dancer who appeared on "America's Best Dance Crew" ... TMZ has learned.

Sources tell TMZ ... Alex Welch was on the receiving end of Demi's blow.  Welch is a backup dancer on the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert Tour.  She was also a member of Beat Freaks, which got the runner-up title on season 3 of "America's Best Dance Crew."

We're told Welch -- who had a pretty nasty shiner from the incident -- has been talking to lawyers and is considering legal action.

Sources close to Demi say she feels "awful" about her behavior and took personal responsibility for it by leaving the tour and seeking help.

Thank you! lol. No judge in the world would ever award a huge settlement for a mere eye boo boo.

If it was your sister, friend, or daughter who was the dancer punched. You'd be jumping at Demi. Do you actually think she entitle to punch the dancer? Who makes more money? Does that make her entitled to punch any dancer when she's mad. Disney better redo their formula for Disney so called starlets.

Let us, for once take a breath and give this girl a break. She is a child. 18 or not. I have children older than that. Let's be silent about this let her have her time and when she talks about it she does. In this day of everything being recorded, photographed, recorded can we just say enough? Who among us with everything we speak, utter, act, etc is clean? No one. she deserves silence until she is willing to speak. She deserves respect. Let us not act like judge, jury and executioner especially in the day that everyone thinks something is a way to get a reality show, a payout, something. What happened to a simple, if this indeed happened, a simple I am sorry and that was acceptable? Now it seems if a celebrity sneezes in a restaurant and someone gets a cold they will hold them accountable. Hopefully, for a payout. I wish miss Lovato the best. I hope we speak no more about a kid which she is. Let us all be the first to stop speculating, hounding, digging and looking for some kind of flaw and let this girl heal.

WTF are some of these comments? Demi went to a TREATMENT CENTER to deal with cutting, an eating disorder, and self esteem issues

I Support Demi

She did it "because she thought the girl told on her for drinking". If the girl DID tell on her for drinking (which was none of her business), then she kind of had it coming. If the girl didn't tell, then whoever DID still has it coming. Point being... people should mind their own business on these matters. They were in a South American country. It is perfectly legal for an 18 year old to drink in most South American countries. If they want to go the "well it was a Disney event" route, I would have to counter with "so, are you saying not a single person of legal age to drink was drinking while on tour?". Personally, I'd rather see Demi getting into the occasional scuffle than spreading her legs all over town like a lot of these hussies.

wow! i cant believe these comments. we dont even know the whole story and everyone is judging demi. for all we know demi could have punched her subconsciously. the punchee could have done something that reminded demi of the times she was bullied and demi just reacted. even though it was no way to react it could have happened to anyone.

Look no one here is entitled to any sort of violence. We're merely looking at what CAUSED her to do so. I mean there is reason behind everything and sometimes it's irrational. It's not right and I think she should take responsibility for it. But asking for a huge settlement for an eye blemish that would heal within a few weeks is like asking for a lifetime monetary settlement. I agree that the dancer should get SOMETHING. But that something is gonna be small. It would be like a police officer constantly suing his department everytime he was involved in a fist fight with a criminal. It makes no sense.

And Disney is not an innocent company. They aren't in the business for making role models. They're the same as any large money hungry business. Where have you been?
