David Cassidy Strikes Deal in DUI Case

2/16/2011 9:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

David Cassidy will not go to jail for his DUI arrest in Florida back in November -- but he will lose his driving privileges for the next 6 months ... TMZ has learned.

0215_david_cassidy_EX_TMZ_01
Court officials confirm ... Cassidy has agreed to enter a no contest plea during a hearing this afternoon.

We're told in exchange for the plea ... Cassidy will be sentenced to one year probation, his license will be suspended for 6 months and he will be required to complete 50 hours of community service.

Cassidy must also pay around $500 in fines, complete an alcohol education course -- and attend a DUI "victim impact panel" ... where people who have been affected by drunk drivers will tell their stories.

As TMZ reported, Cassidy failed a breathalyzer test on November 3 after state troopers saw David weaving off the road in his Mercedes around 8 PM.

Didn't he say he never drives drunk and that he would be cleared of these charges. he says he had a wandering eye defense http://www.tmz.com/2010/11/29/david-cassidy-dui-florida-highway-patrol-dash-cam-footage/ Cassidy can be heard griping, "As a guy who's supported you guys over the years ..." Like that is a get out of jail free card. then he blames it on a pain pill and being tired http://www.tmz.com/2010/11/30/david-cassidy-pleads-not-guilty-dui-drunk-driving-florida/David copped to taking a pain pill for his back earlier in the day -- and says he may have been tired from an early morning funeral he had to attend -- but dude claims he definitely wasn't drunk. Then he says no contest! Time to wake up David as you have made a fool of yourself and your fan base(or whatever you have left). You knew you were drunk and tried to spin it and failed. You got off easy because of your fame. Your face is gone, and your music career is reduced to oldie shows. Check into rehab before you kill someone and do some real time.

This is a "Crock" it has been a long standing trut that "Celebrities
who commit petty crimes don't go the jail. David Cassidy is a "nobody". If this were in any other state he would be in "jail". Don't be suprised if he driving in two weeks. David Cassidy is a piece of sh*t.

NO, Ernie. He got treated just like anyone else. It is rare for someone to get jail time for a first time dui unless you really piss off the judge. You can go to jail, it is in the statute, but it is uncommon. "Getting off" would be having it reduced to reckless driving which, believe it or not, a lot of people are successful doing if they have a good attorney. Apparently, this guy wasn't.

The no contest plea allows him to continue to deny he was drunk, no jail time, he can afford a driver so who cares if he's allowed to drive, and 50 hours of community service which will probably be written off to crap he was going to do anyway. This is why some celebrities break the law time after time after time. They never really get punished, so why should they stop?

ummm? First time offender, this is about right. Hopefully he will remove himself from his Big ego and be accountable for his actions. Not only was he drinking but took a pain killer. This guy has been chasing his fate for a long time and has been lucky...but luck does run out-He is a typical drunk who cannot seem to take responsibility for any of us bad behavior. I was a fan for 24 years and then I have heard some disturbing things from fans that are sick and just went wow, what a jerk!

I live in Fl. These guidelines are specific because I know, I was part of system, legal. If Cassidy messed up, our judges here don't play games like they do in Cali. If he's VoP, his ass will be in jail. David don't play games here. Go do the court order stuff, it will be done quickly.

Jack Cassidy's alchohal level was not that high when he died.
Jack's was .12 and he wasn't driving. In fact he gave his car keys to someone else.
David's was .14.
Also the cause of the fire was unknown and they think it may have been a smoldering cigarette ash.
I hate it when people who don't know the facts act like they do.

How exactly is this a DEAL? Sounds like they are throwing the book at him. Ridiculous. Should be moderate fine and lose the license for a year.
