Warner Bros. to Charlie:

Here's Why You're Fired

3/7/2011 8:25 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has obtained a letter Warner Bros. sent to Charlie Sheen's lawyer, stating Charlie was being terminated because he committed a felony involving "moral turpitude."

Charlie Sheen Termination Letter
In the 11-page letter, obtained from sources connected to Charlie, Warner Bros. states, "Your client has been engaged in dangerously self-destructive conduct and appears to be very ill."

The letter then goes on to describe Charlie's hijinks, including trashing the Plaza Hotel in NYC, coke binges, on-set failures because of drug fatigue, and diatribes against "Two and a Half Men" creator Chuck Lorre.

The letter also notes that Charlie derailed production when he went into rehab, and then he fired his sobriety coach.  In fact, Warner Bros. claims it was so concerned about Charlie's well-being, "Warner Bros. had an airplane waiting" to take him to a treatment facility ... but Charlie would have none of it.

As for why Charlie got fired, the letter says there is a clause in his contract saying they can fire a performer who commits "a felony offense involving moral turpitude."

The letter says, "There is ample evidence supporting Warner Bros. reasonable good faith opinion that Mr. Sheen has committed felony offenses involving moral turpitude (including but not limited to furnishing of cocaine to others as part of the self-destructive lifestyle he has described publicly) that have 'interfere[d] with his ability to fully and completely render all material services required' under the agreement."

In short, that's why Charlie was fired.

Charlie's lawyer, Marty Singer, has demanded Warner Bros. pay Charlie for the eight canceled episodes -- or else.

Warner Bros. seems undaunted by the threat, even reserving its right to take legal action against Charlie.

What a shame. I was on Charlies side, I think he has been badly treated by warner bros. Bosses think they can control there workers, if Charlie was turning up to work and doing his job, like all the crew say he was whats the problem, he even agreed to get straight.
This was the best show, Charlie and the cast of actors were great together we will miss the show 'THANKS CHUCK'
The Big Bang show is CRAP.

SHEENS ARE HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SO.

Seems to me the advertisers must have pulled out. Why else did it take CBS and Warner's SO LONG to fire this idiot? As long as there was good money to be made by all, they let it ride. Feeling very badly for his co-stars and crew. And his poor kids. What a mess! The Horror, THE HORROR!

#54 thestones: Moral Turpitude - The classification of a crime or other conduct as constituting moral turpitude has significance in several areas of law. First, prior conviction of a crime of moral turpitude (or in some jurisdictions, moral turpitude conduct, even without a conviction) is considered to have a bearing on the honesty of a witness and may be used for purposes of witness impeachment.

I love Charlie but I'll still watch the show without him. Jon Cryer, Angus Jones, Conchata Farrell and all the rest of the cast are amazing. And I'd love it if Uncle Jesse came on board.

How can people not see that the Warner Bros. do***ent is a product of clever lawyers who know their way around the English language, rather than of a solid presentable case.

I honestly think Charlie has a case! Yes he is batchit crazy but who pushed him over the edge? I don't think Chuck helped any by posting those vanity cards about Charlie. If you know someone is mentally ill and or addicted to drugs why would a sane man provoke him? On one hand you admit he has serious issues on the other you let the creator of the show throw gas on the fire with his vanity cards? Un uh can't have it both ways. He didn't even have a morality clause and you still went on a witch hunt, what did you honestly think was gonna happen a tea party and a group hug? If he is (duhhhh) mentally ill I think they are gonna have to pay him a ton of money and with this 11 page statement they pretty much buried themselves.

Bottom line instead of a blurb that he was fired they shot themselves in the foot and pretty much handed 11 pages of evidence to Charlie.

Isn't greed a wonderful thing? I think I am gonna stick to my 9 to 5 job seems safer in the "real world" without warlocks and such!

Peace

If it is later proven that Charlie is mentally ill- like maybe bi-polar- does the American with Disabilities Act apply? Or- if he is sober- not actively using- does ADA also apply.

You can't fire someone because they are ill & covered under ADA

What Idiots, what great press this is for the show. Bring Charlie back viewership will be through the roof. Millions of new viewers, people going out to buy the past seasons, this was the train wreck that was a win win for all most of all the crew and the behind the scenes people that might now be out of work. CBS created this mess now they are trying to say it's not our fault.

Not only is he innocent until proven guilty, making the reason for the firing unreasonable, but his contract has no "moral turpitude" clause. WB is screwed and deservedly so. Go Charlie!

"...seems to be very ill"?

Just say it: manic depression.

They probably don't because it's most likely illegal to fire someone for having a mental illness.
(Who could blame them, though?)
So they write other reasons.

They don't have a "Hope'n Hell" of win'n that case if this ever hits a court of law.
They mize well just give the dude his cash now.
They tried da same dam thing against Howard Stern 6 years ago. They ended up not only pay'n him off they had to give up their rights to the CBS catalog of da HS Show.

Stupid move boys. Myer & Horn bad move. Les don'tcha ever learn? If they would'a waited it out until June, Charlie would'a blinked. Once again stupid move Les! Charlie will end up with more than his 16 mil. Gar'een'f'nteed!
