Robin Roberts

Chris Approved My

Rihanna Q's

3/22/2011 12:06 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Robin Roberts asked Chris Brown if she could question him about the Rihanna incident BEFORE the live interview began on "GMA" this morning ... this according to sources connected to the production.

Robin Roberts

Sources tell TMZ ... Roberts insists both she and other "GMA" staff members spoke with Chris before the interview and asked if it would be OK to fire off "a few questions" about the Rihanna incident ... and Chris approved.

As TMZ first reported, Brown flipped out after the interview -- and apparently smashed a window in his dressing room.

Robin is telling people at the show she did NOT try to set him up ... and insists, "I'm pulling for the guy."

As for the broken window, sources say no one in the studio saw Chris throw the chair into the window ... but he was definitely in the dressing room when the window was smashed.

UPDATE 9:19 AM: After Roberts left the "GMA" building, she posted on her Twitter page, "Sure has been an interesting AM @GMA. Still sorting thru everything myself. Just my 2nd day on twitter, wonder what tomorrow will bring?"

Why can't society let the past stay in the past. Why can't the media move on as people try to move forward. If I was Chris I would not accept any questions pretaining to my past relationship because it is old news.

@Melinda Rihanna has already forgiven him.

Chris Brown has already atoned for what he did, and IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON!!! I am so tired of this whole Rihanna BS! Can't he do an interview without them wanting to bring it up???! Yeah, he beat her up, but she has moved on and forgiven him. Bottom line is if you like his music and wish to support him, do so, and if you don't STFU already! I'm getting the CD, Bro! Hang in there!

She was wrong - get over it - yes it was two years ago. He was there to talk about his album.

And I'm not a fan just being fair!

Didn't he have to take anger management therapy of some kind? Wonder how that's working for him?
Robin was lucky the cameras were on as he might have "gone off" on her physically had people not been in the studio and viewers watching on TV. This incident will be recounted by every late night host for a long time and his silly music will be ignored, and he did it all to himself. What a psycho!

Is anyone really surprised by this? If so you must be one of the very few that believe in the "lip service" that Chris Brown has been vomitting forth since he kicked the crap out of Rihanna. His actions & words since the "incident" happened are typical of an abuser and anyone who has been on the receiving end of a backhand recognizes this. He is now and will continue to an abuser until he owns it and overcomes his issues.
Now in response to #10 sah... Are you ignorant or just prejudice? What does black or white have to do with this forum? If this is the case then this is an African American man(almost) being interviewed by an African American woman. Chris Brown, not his manager (who is white by the way) approved all of his questions before the interview. You are an ingnorant wretch of a human being and should not be allowed to speak unless spoken to first. I hear that Reverend Farrakhan is looking for more closed minded people just like you to join in his fight the "Blue Eyed Devils" in the world, maybe you should join!

Why ask him? You agree to an interview, get free publicity,if you dont want to answer our questions, get the f*** out.Oh I forgot, you have to ask them first because it my destroy thier little fantasy world that they live in that they are all that.

For all of you that thinks he's such a dumbass and wishes death on him, try "wearing" his shoes. If you made a terrible mistake and everybody was STILL questioning you about it YEARS later...would you be calm about it? No one likes their mistakes thrown back into their face all the time. You can't expect someone to change if you can't let go of the past.

I should also mention that this Robin and other journalists like her ought to consider that even RIHANNA probably doesn't want this to keep being brought up! Did Robin ever bother to think that maybe Rihanna doesn't want to think about that night any more than Chris does? Stop making the poor woman relive that nightmare by constantly reminding her about it! Maybe people should keep asking Robin (incessantly) about her cancer and see how she likes it! She obviously cares more about sensationalism than about the human beings involved...

Chris, Chris, Chris. You were doing so well with trying to change your life, why did you let Robin get to you like that? Even though I can see that she definitely pushed you over the edge (and probably did so on purpose), you didn't have to give into it! You could have just told her that the interview was over because you weren't interested in spending an entire interview talking about nothing but the Rihanna incident and then walked out CALMLY.

I guess in that moment, you had lost all hope and maybe questioned the point of even trying to become a better person when all people want to do is focus on one really bad thing that you did. Maybe you thought that if people choose to keep trying to portray you as a monster then you might as well act like one. The point in trying to become a better man, though, is for YOURSELF, not for anyone else, including your fans. You can't expect other people to forget about what you did to Rihanna because that's NEVER going to happen, but when you truly change, then questions about Rihanna won't bother you anymore because you'll know deep down inside that you are NOT that same person anymore who was capable of such violence. As it is, however, you obviously ARE still that same violent guy and that's why it upsets you so much.

Don't give up, Chris. Even though you obviously haven't changed as much as you hoped, that doesn't mean that you never will or that you can't. There IS still hope for you. You need to stop trying to ignore the Rihanna situation, though. You can't live like it never happened because it DID and people like Robin are constantly going to remind you of that. What you need to do is come to acceptance that what happened happened and people WILL talk about it but that's alright because you can use each and every mention about that situation as a reminder to yourself never to behave that way again.

As for Robin, that was a very dirty and underhanded thing to do. I question whether or not Chris actually approved the questions about Rihanna as you claim, but if he did, I'm sure he didn't think that the ENTIRE interview was going to be about that! He obviously was trying to change the subject, so why didn't you let him? Because all YOU wanted to talk about was the Rihanna situation and that's obviously the only reason you had him on the show in the first place! You didn't care about his new album or about anything else, so don't claim to be "pulling for the guy" after the way you set him up the way you did! You'd better hope that you don't have any skeletons in your own closet for somebody else to keep throwing up in YOUR face like you did to Chris!

Maybe when the media quits fawning over these irrelevant pukes they'll fade away.

Why can't people let Chris go on with out bringing up Rihannas name everytime he is interviewed. I think the media is carrying this a little to far.
