Bryant spoke with Human Rights Campaign honcho Joe Solmonese -- who tells TMZ, "I applaud Kobe Bryant for his swift apology. We had a very sincere conversation in which he expressed his heartfelt regret for the hurt that his words caused."

Solmonese adds, "He told me that it’s never OK to degrade or tease, and that he understands how his words could unfortunately give the wrong impression that this is appropriate conduct."

"At the end of a difficult day, I applaud Kobe for coming forward and taking responsibility for his actions."

Next we'll read that Charlie Sheen reached out to Kobe to offer support for the outrage in the media.

Why doesn't Kobe have the right to hate gays and call them names on National TV? Kobe can also insult Whites, Jews, Muslims, Women, Asians, Native Peoples and other groups too during nationally televised basketball games.

We're all so fascinated and impressed by every fu-king word that comes out of that moron's mouth. He's a great b-ball player. That's it and that's all. In anything else, he's only an authority if you make him one. If he's your role model for anything other than basketball, you're in deep trouble.

Did Kobe invite him back to the lockerroom after a game? He could get a thrill from all the naked players walking around, then the whole thing will be forgotten.

100 thousand is a ridiculous amount for mouthing the word fa--ot. It is a trashy, sleazy, ghetto rich mentality to say "Oh, that's nothing to him. A drop in the bucket". It's a lot of money to anyone. Just because it won't really dent his bank account doesn't mean he can't appreciate how much money that is.

The immaturity of the homophobic comments is so tragically hilarious. It's really like a lot of you haven't grown up past 7. Treat others the way you want to be treated. A lot of you must have never heard of that message. It's so pathetic.

Anti-gay slurs are not just empty words. They are taking how people identify and gay-centric words and using them as pejoratives. That is not acceptable. And it isn't sensitive to stand up for yourself and not allow yourself to be denigrated.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean you don't have responsibility of what you say. You say something irresponsible and out of line, you get called out for it. That's the way things work in a civil society. Time for those who don't like THAT to hush up and deal with it and the consequences of anti-gay behavior.

I just don't like anti gay idiots harassing poor parents at the funeral. That's all. I do understand that everybody have their rights but please do not make it more important than it is.

I'm not even a fan of him but this is sickening. No one needs to apologize for saying anything. especially when the majority of California sees homosexuality as a sin and banned gay marriage. And they gave that poor girl crap for saying she didn't believe in gay marriage at Miss USA or whatever beauty pageant. This is why the Middle East doesn't want to become like us! There is no real freedom of speech when you're in this libreal run media.

Freedom of speech doesn't count on the internet, tough guy. This is a private site.

You can say F**** and N***** in the NBA you just have to call Joe Solmonese to get permission and applause.

Joe Solmonese also stood up in his chair and screamed "yippee" when bryant called him a f***** f*****. Joe Solmonese also stated he enjoyed being by Kobe Bryant's f**** f*****.

Superman, when gay people use the f-word amongst themselves, they generally aren't doing it in an offensive, hateful way. Context. And it's THEIR word to use, anyway. So, please, stop crying victim. Nothing PC about respect for others.

N.O. Lady, stop making this about religion. Stop making this about anything but anti-gay slurs and the fact they are unacceptable. People like you love to change subjects to justify yourself. Not working this time. Not working ever again.

Janeny, you have the freedom of speech to be anti-gay and voice that opinion, and I have the freedom of speech to call you the irrational personality disordered hateful bigot you are. Freedom of speech has nothing to do with freedom of responsibility of that speech. You say something, you're responsible for it. You choose to be a bigot, you choose the consequences of that in 2011, a society that is shunning such attitudes. You're OWN fault.
