JaMarcus Russell

I'm Back From The Debt!

8/28/2011 5:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

NFL bust JaMarcus Russell is still paying for the mess he made in Oakland ... but this time it's a good thing.

TMZ has learned ... the #1 overall pick in the 2007 Draft was hit with a $223,180.05 lien by the State of California Tax Board for failing to pay his taxes in 2008 ... when he still played for the Raiders.

But this story has a happy ending, because according to court documents filed in Alameda County, CA -- JaMarcus recently paid off his debt the lien has been released.

Russell still has ties to Oakland -- where a $2.4 million mansion he owns is still in foreclosure and is set to be auctioned off next month ... unless he decides to pay off the debts and penalties.

FYI -- Russell famously signed a RIDICULOUS contract worth around $60 mil in 2007 -- and then proceeded to only win seven games in three pathetic seasons.

It should be noted that the contract was worth $60...... million but he didn't receive all $60...... million...The contract had a guarantee of $32 million I believe...Now that's still a ton of money but he only got just over half what the contract was worth plus a signing bonus. He should never be in debt but let's not make it seem like he got more than what he actually did.

Do people really think they are going to get away with not paying their taxes? I read about murderers getting lesser sentences than people who don't pay their taxes.

SPN, no one is making it sound like he got more than he did. He just got "much" more than he deserved. 60 million for an untested rookie, who only played a short time in college. Although thats not his fault, it's that dinosaur, Al Davis. Even so, probably the worst draft pick in NFL history. What a loser.

"contract worth around $60... mil "

Even after all was took out and the real number is lower. I can't believe these guys don't just pay the 2.4 million for the house. Just does not make sense As with Michael Vick who lost his $400,000 house.Come on! Pay the dam thing off then when you need the money you can sell it instead of losing it.
And with so many NORMAL working people who will NEVER make the money these guys do losing their house, you not going to get any sympathy.

JaMarcus had a really rotten family-matter when he 1st started playing for the Oakland Raiders...he had 2 uncles who helped raise him, both died exactly 3 months apart of eachother. That would be like losing your father twice? I think he made his mistakes because he was given no time to grieve. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. Don't judge til you know all the facts. As a matter of fact, it is only God who should judge!

well i know one thing for sure. He would be dirt cheap if anyone wanted to pick him up again. he can still throw like 200 yards with a flick of the wrist. and hes still like 260...lbs (estimate). why not teach him to play somethting else.
