George Stephanopoulos

Too Short for Morning TV?

9/12/2011 7:03 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

George Stephanopoulos
could lose his "Good Morning America" anchor chair within a year to the news reader who towers over him ... this according to network sources.

The buzz at ABC is that Josh Elliott -- a former ESPN sports anchor who has been the GMA news reader since March -- is on the fast track for the anchor seat.  Josh filled in on "World News Tonight" last week and network suits are in love with him.

The network will deny it's contemplating a change, but that's not what we're hearing.

The ratings at GMA have actually gone up a bit with George, so why would the network mess with the show?  Our sources say the suits think Josh and Robin Roberts have better chemistry and look better together.

Our sources say the buzz is that George could go back to his old job, anchoring "This Week," especially because execs privately now admit Christiane Amanpour is a disaster as an anchor.

Now why, you ask, do they look better than Robin and George?  Robin is 5'10" without heels.  Josh is around 6'3."  George is 5'6" ... and a half.  There's a lot of talk at ABC that it just looks awkward when the male anchor is slight and short.

Not that there's anything wrong with it.

I'd like to see some interesting people on a news program like Michael Savage and Ann Coulter or Laura Ingraham. Of course this station would never dream of that ! They want people to do Fluff News only !

I'm glad they took back their statement! His gorgeous wife Ali would go in there and, how shall I say, KICK BUTT! George would simply OWN Good Morning America for their unfairness against height. You don't have to be 6'4" to be as intelligent as George is, period.

I've never seen so many idiots posting BS on this site. It is NOT discrimination!! You twits! This is television and of course, the best looking people get the best jobs. Discrimination has to do with age, sex, disability, marital status, etc. There is NO protection for height. LOL
.
OMG, you idiots obviously have internet access, try to use it to educate yourselves so you don't appear like such morons.
.
Get rid of George, Lara and that stupid pop segment, and possible Robin. George is too hard on the eyes, and too opinionated for discussions and completely out of his element when he interviews guests. LOVE Sam, Josh, David Muir, Bill Weir, and Elizabeth Vargas.

George is the only one that has a clue about what is going on in both Washington and other parts of the world. Robin can talk womens sports and hollywood gossip and so far Josh doesn't seem to take much of anything serious. Lara is a waste of money and time. Sam is ok, I mean weather really is just entertainment for the morning shows. Keep George get rid of Lara.

GMA used to be somewhat cutting edge, appearing to young people and people enjoyed watching this show. Then some moron decided it needed a change. I switched if off because GMA became serious once again. It was like how you act when an investor is sitting in your area. Then they brought on Shorty Longfellow (George S.) and the other cast of stiff boards sheepdips. George is knowledgeable but the take away shot show something is wrong. He's a bookshelf guy. Now ABC should make him sit on a bookshelf for his interviews. Take about a ratings boast!

Nothing against George at all, but in general aren't most shorter-vertically challenged males known for acting like little Napoleon? So insecure and really a pita in general.
Advice?

How dare Good Morning America even think of this nonsense! If women, gay people, ethnic minorities, etc. can be anchorpersons, why can't short people? This is discrimination, and it will not stand!

Harvey & Charles, During the GMA height discussion, you mentioned that George co-hosted with Diane Sawyer. Actually, Robin and Diane were the co-hosts of GMA. When Diane was promoted to the World News anchor, George became the co-host with Robin. I think that George will continue to host GMA until Diane retires (or replaced) on World News. George will become the anchor of World News, then Josh will be promoted to GMA host. The current height issue is distracting on screen, but having George on the show is more important.
