Soap Actor's Suicide

Condo Board Member

Accepts NO Responsibility

A member of the condo board that Nick Santino said pressured him to euthanize his pit-bull -- a decision that drove him to suicide -- says the condo board is NOT responsible for his death.

Board member Marilyn Fireman says she is sorry that Santino is dead, but says it has nothing to do with the building's no-pet policy. She tells the NY Post, "You just assumed that [his suicide] was a result of a board’s decision."

Fireman did concede Santino routinely complained about the building’s anti-dog policies.

Santino's sister tells the paper the family is holding off on funeral arrangements until the dead dog's ashes are brought home ... saying, "They'll be buried together."

Santino had his beloved and healthy pit-bull Rocco put to sleep on Tuesday, Santino's 47th birthday. A few hours later, he overdosed on pills.

Do people actually read this story? i think people, mostly trolls, comment on what they think the story is about rather than read. this guy was obviously mentally unstable. like another reader commented, when you are sick you do not make sane decisions. I firmly believe the board bullied him, made it uncomfortable for him because they couldn't force him out regarding the grandfather clause for the pet. another reader commented on the stigma regarding pit bulls...it would have been extremely hard for this guy to rehome his pitbull. these dogs are used for fighting, they get a bad rap in the media & because of bad owners who breed them to be violent. i believe the board kicked this man when he was down and just kept on kicking him because they couldn't force him to leave with his dog. so yes, some of the responsibility needs to be laid at their feet. shame on them. housing associations and boards for apartment buildings just need to be eradicated. they are archaic and foster an attitude that it's their way or the highway. shame on them. i hope the dog's ghost haunts her every day and night.

His reasons for suicide were far deeper than the reported story.

I don't see how ANYONE who loves their pet would be able to make a 'rush decision' to put their beloved animal to death. I think that's outrageous. He made a poor decision.

Marilyn Fireman is 100% responsible for Santino's suicide she and the board made his life hell (the condo has a pet friendly policy) he was single out because he had a pit bull mix and decided to change the policy to persecute and harass Santino over his dog. She and the board have to live with the shame. Its not easy to find homes for pit bull mix and at least he knew that his best friend was in a better place.

I can't believe anyone would actually blame the condo board for his suicide. He made the decision to eathanize his dog and he made the decision to kill himself. He could have moved (I'm sure he had the means) and he could have found a home for the dog. It is extremely sad and disturbing that he chose to end his life, but to blame the condo board for enforcing their rules is ridiculous. I think Nick Santino must have been mentally ill.

Not her responsibility? Crazy biotch steps up and gets her nose in everyone's business, forcing folks to live the way she thinks life should be lived and then claims innocence when her hateful demands result in tragedy? I hope she and the rest of the board never have a peaceful moment the rest of their horrible lives.

chr!st. if your bldg doesn't allow dogs you move or you find the dog a new home. you don't kill the dog, and then yourself. any man who would commit suicide over something like this is just not well to begin with. it is an incredibly sad story - but, i have to agree that it is not the condo board's fault.

A forty seven yr old man cannot figure out that if he wants to keep his dog, he moves??? he boards him until he can move, or he respects the tenets of the lease or agreement he signed?? Not everyone is a rocket scientist...

WHat power does a condo org have to make you kill your dog. That is completely on the owner, what a f-in moron, he could have given the dog to a better plce, given it away, i am sure there were more options than killing it. Dumass.

Nobody has to put down a healthy animal. There are people out there that would take this loving dog in. He was having psychological problems aside from his dog issues.
