'Bachelor' Racism Lawsuit

Producers Encourage

White Power Mentality

The producers of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" are responsible for encouraging racism across the country by refusing to cast black people in the shows' central roles -- this according to a new class action lawsuit.

Christopher Johnson and Nathaniel Claybrooks filed the lawsuit today in Tennessee federal court against the shows' producers -- claiming they both auditioned for "The Bachelor" in Nashville in August 2011 ... but were brazenly denied based solely on the color of their skin.

0417_nathan_chris_bachelor
Christopher and Nathaniel claim producers were afraid to cast them for fear of alienating "the show's majority-white viewership."

As a result, the guys claim producers are teaching the public how to be racist -- by demonstrating preferences for white relationships over non-white and interracial relationships.

They might have a point too ... because the show has never once cast a person of color -- black, Asian, Latino, whatever -- in the central role as Bachelor or Bachelorette.

"Bachelor" creator Michael Fleiss has even acknowledged the problem -- stating long before the lawsuit was filed ... "We always want to cast for ethnic diversity. It's just that for whatever reason, they don't come forward. I wish they would."

Chris and Nathaniel are now demanding a change in "Bachelor" policy -- requiring producers to "consider persons of color as finalists for the role of the Bachelor and the Bachelorette."

Oh yeah, they also want money -- an unspecified amount of punitive damages.

They just want money. They know the producers will want to end this and will settle out of court. Pathetic and should be illegal. I hope the producers see this through and these tools are given all the court costs.

I'm black but even I see this would be a bad move. This show airs on a major network like ABC during a primetime slot. With the ridiculousness that networks like MTV, BET, and VH1 broadcast of course ABC doesn't want to mess up their winning formula and make their viewers think this show will become one of those. It's more acceptable on those networks because it's geared towards a different type of audience. ABC also airs What Would You Do which featured a segment where white women broke down in tears at the sight of an interracial couple. If their target audience is this type the results of mixing up the show could be catastrophic.

Are you serious? Every time there is a program that doesn't include a afro American, there is an issue made. We have BET and award shows just for afro Americans, but every time we are missing a black person on a show there is an issue made, get real!

Just curious, have any White folks sued the Tyler Perry show or his movies for reverse racism?? Doubt it...his shows are geared to a demographic; so is the Bachelor/Bachelorette. BTW, I have seem non-whites on the show before as potential dates for the contestants.

Oh please, they should kiss everyone's behind if they think they should earn a paycheck by screaming discrimination. The fact of the matter is that most people are so sick of these shows showing black women behaving so badly. Examples are Basketball Wives, Real Housewives of Atlanta, etc.... I turn the channel when I see the commercials for the dumb shows. I am disgusted at any show that glorifies bad behavior of women black or white. It makes women, especially when men are involved look uneducated, and unable to control ones impulses. We don't need a show on a major network during primetime showing the chicken necking, while lips stuck out and eyes rolling all while drinking glasses are thrown and other women getting slapped or just plain punched. Sure, a little backbiting always happens, just look at last season with that ridiculou Courtney, but not the kind of drama the stereotypical "angry black woman" will bring. Unless they got respectable black women who are not violent, who were raised to behave like ladies, I would never watch it, most people I know would not watch it, and I would be willing to bet most of America would not watch it! This is what alot of people think, but will not put in words like I just did. The black men and women that I have talked to about this are even disgusted by the behavior of the people in their own race on reality tv type shows.

If I wanted to see a bunch of women behaving like Basketball Wives, I would watch that show, but I don't. That's probably the real reason why the networks don't do it, it's all the other drama that comes with it. The show would need to show positive black men and women on the show because there are too many idiots on tv that have an affect on how our young people behave. Positive black role models need to be there, not what's currently out on tv now. There are very few shows showing positive black role models right now. The bachelor can do it, but they would need to weed out all the people that want to act like fools because that's what they are used to watching on MTV, VHI, and Bravo. These fools do not deserve a paycheck by suing the networks. They can put whomever they darned well please on their shows. They need to put out shows that are going to get an audience. That's just the way it is.

Thats right sue their azzez! Black Power!

I have a great idea. Let the black population have all the commercials, reality shows, and any job they want so white people can have their turn collecting welfare and make babies for a few generations...Its our turn to collect and have them support white people

I'm pretty sure that only really good looking guys with money and hair or rejects of previous bachelorettes have been invited to be the bachelor. If you're old, fat, bald or broke, forgetaboutit.

Unless the producers actually stated that they weren't selected based on their race, they are going to have a difficult time proving their case.
