Amar'e Stoudemire

Sorry for Homophobic Slur

6/26/2012 2:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire is owning up to a homophobic message he sent to a fan on Twitter this weekend -- and now wants to publicly apologize, telling TMZ, "I should have known better and there is no excuse."

Amar'e adds, "I am a huge supporter of civil rights for all people. I am disappointed in myself for my statement to a fan."

The NBA just announced ... Amar'e has been fined $50,000 over the incident -- for what the league called "offensive and derogatory language."

Amar'e sent the message Saturday in response to a bitter fan, who criticized Amar'e for the Knicks' poor finish last season. The fan wrote, "@Amareisreal you better come back a lot stronger and quicker to make up for this past season mannnnnn deadasss!!!"

Amar'e responded in a direct message, saying, "F**k you. I don't have to do anything f*g."

Amar'e apologized to the fan directly soon after, writing, "I apologize for what I said earlier. I just got off the plane and had time to think about it. Sorry bro!! No excuses. Won’t happen again.”

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that tweet. Calling someone a derogatory name is meant to signify something abnormal. In this case, something pervertedly abnormal. Homosexual behavior is not normal.

#37 HASKEL420 That is the dumbest thing that people say and believe. SO YOU can choose to be gay and enjoy having sex with men? If they can "choose" to be straight, then by your logic you can "choose" to be gay.

All of you idiots who think this is a big deal need to go watch the south park episode "the f word" even if you aren't a fan of south park the message is crystal clear and hits the nail right on the head.

No one (gay or straight) wants to be called a fgt. Possibly he realized the person could have used the n word but didn't. If you can't make your point w/o using either of these words, you're probably pathetic.

Why is it that when a black person says something racist or homophobic, they apologize and that's the end of it? But when a white person says something racist, Sharpton & Jackson (the 2 Stooges) want the person fired, their family run out of town, their bank accounts given to the NAACP and so on......

Black people are excellent at hurling the F-word. But as soon as someone call a black chick a B---- she is ready to pull a knife on them. I'm glad that this Black dude was fined. Amen.
