Laird Hamilton

It's Okay

If Lance Armstrong Cheated

8/25/2012 5:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0825_laird_hamilton_video_tmzSurfing legend Laird Hamilton thinks it's BS that Lance Armstrong got stripped of his Tour de France titles, but not because he thinks doping is wrong ... but because everyone was doing it.

Hamilton took the unusual position when our our photog bumped into him yesterday in Malibu ... saying he believes that if everyone is cheating in a sport, then it's "still an even playing field, it's still the best guy wins."

Hamilton also said he thinks the public coming down on athletes who are found to be cheating isn't right, saying, "I think it's a little bit of hypocrisy that we think these athletes are sterile people that are eating dry toast and then they're performing at these high levels. Rocket ships need rocket fuel to go to space. Athletes need the fuel they need to do what they need to do and let's be realistic about that."

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency hit Armstrong with a lifetime ban yesterday and stripped him of his seven Tour de France titles after concluding he used performance-enhancing drugs. Armstrong maintains his innocence.

I agree with Laird! He's still one of the greatest athlete of all time! I'm doubling up on my LIVESTRONG bracelets. Team Lance!

L Hamilton has been doped up for too long. The thing may not be that LA was doped but that he denied it furiously and got huge sponsor deals while maintaining he was clean and giving this image of a really clean-cut guy. Doesn't matter who else was doing it, dozens of cyclists close to LA were caught and he kept on saying he never did anything.

To be the man, you have got to beat the man, even if it means cheating to win! :)

This man fought CANCER. What kind of drugs do you think they give to their patients? These people are out of their minds. You're still number one in this family Lance.

To me it is a moot point whether or not he was actually ever doping... If he passed all the tests and they can't prove he was doping, then it should be dropped. And how is a U.S. Agency able to strip an athlete of Tour de France titles, anyway?

So according to this statement...Lance was doping...ok. Hence why Lance is not fighting it. Got it.

furious cupcakes

What is considered "doping" and what is considered normal supplementing? Are they talking about steroids here or is it something else?

So now we can do what we please and then when caught all we have to do is give a child's response..... everyone else is doing it. What a load of garbage! You get juiced, you deserve to have it all taken away when you get caught. What an embarassement.

Fuck Celebrities

Armstrong needs a swift kick to the 'nad he's got left... if he really had surgery.

This surfer **** needs a boat anchor and lots of rope.

I believe his due process right was denied. Found guilty without fair trial.

So, their proof that Lance cheated back then is not Lance failing any of the drug tests, but rather other cyclists claiming years later that they thought he cheated.
The USADA convicted him before the trial, metaphorically. Lance knows it. That is why he quit fighting a losing battle. To get his "win" he would have to spend all his money and end up a homeless drifter with a heroin addiction.
Not saying that Lance did not dope. Rather, I believe all the cyclists were doping. He just won too many times for his competitors' liking.

Rather than repeating Lance's PR statements, ask yourself why Lance would decide to quit just before the public arbitration would start.

Do you know that the panel of three arbitration judges would consist of one picked by USADA, one picked by Lance, and one agreed on by both USADA and Lance?  That sounds fair to me.

If Lance really thought the process was unfair, why quit before it begins and be stripped of everything, rather than letting the public see everything in the hearing, and expose it to the world as unfair?

Lance quit because he has no defense against the truth.  Please, rather than Just repeating "witch hunt, unfair, kangaroo court, over 500 tests," etc., give a minute of serious thought to Lance's actions and form your own conclusion.

A former prominent athlete myself - college hoop ? -

Totally agree with Laird - it's nonsense - all of it -

Also commend Laird for going on record - takes Gonads to do that.

More athletes should be supporting Lance on this.

Lance has been wronged. No amout of drugs can help a man finish Tour seven times leave alone winning it. Drug or no drug he is a champion. Common u need to give ths guy some respect. Just because he survived cancer and came back to win 7 times no one can digest his fighting spirit. It's a war against him.

He could've farted and it would've made a more intelligent arguement.
