CNN

Tries to Blunt Romney

Criticism Over Candy

CNN's Managing Editor sent an email around the office today, praising Candy Crowley and trying to blunt criticism that she was unfair to Mitt Romney.

The email -- sent by Mark Whitaker and obtained by TMZ -- is almost a series of talking points to address Candy's critics.

Here's the full email:

"Let's start with a big round of applause for Candy Crowley for a superb job under the most difficult circumstances imaginable. She and her team had to select and sequence questions in a matter of hours, and then she had to deal with the tricky format, the nervous questioners, the aggressive debaters, all while shutting out the pre-debate attempts to spin and intimidate her. She pulled it off masterfully.

The reviews on Candy's performance have been overwhelmingly positive but Romney supporters are going after her on two points, no doubt because their man did not have as good a night as he had in Denver. On the legitimacy of Candy fact-checking Romney on Obama's Rose Garden statement, it should be stressed that she was just stating a point of fact: Obama did talk about an act (or acts) of terror, no matter what you think he meant by that at the time. On why Obama got more time to speak, it should be noted that Candy and her commission producers tried to keep it even but that Obama went on longer largely because he speaks more slowly. We're going to do a word count to see whether, as in Denver, Romney actually got more words in even if he talked for a shorter period of time."

TMZ broke the story ... some honchos at CNN want the criticism to go away, even though it's shining a light on one of their most high-profile personalities -- and you just can't buy this type of publicity.

Whoa, the rules don't say the candidate gets to say a certain number of words, does it? CNN is trying to spin it, saying obama talks slower. Maybe he's trying to think of something to say? It's a time rule, silly CNN. Nobody's going to buy your word count trick.

Obama has a tendency to hide under women's skirts, which is a stinky affair from the get-go. He's hiding under his Beard's skirt to validate his masculinity. Then there's Hillary's skirt. But hiding under Crowley's skirt is beyond the pale. BTW, Obama should have left that high-pitched screeching voice at home last night. Sounded like an angry magpie all night long. Gave me a headache. Quite a change indeed from the deep, sonorous, soporific baritone voice he's gifted us with since he first slithered on the national scene that made him sound like the voice-over in a sleep-aid commercial. But, the new voice is certainly in keeping with his true self, the sodomite b*t*h that he is.

You know, it is not how much time you have to make your points, it is how well you make your points with the time you have. Obviously, Romney couldn't get the job done this time, so his team is throwing a temper tantrum.

Obama screwed up the first debate, where was his temper tantrum?

No, I am not voting for Obama or Romney. I'm voting for Bill Nye the Science Guy. Unlike the other 2, Bill won't screw over 95% of the country.

As a commented republican and Romney supported, I think she did OK. Let's stop the nit picking. I saw one incident where she may have stepped over, but by and large she was fairly impartial acting, even if she wasn't impartial in her head. This nit picking has just gotta stop. People making a big deal of "binders full of women"; we all knew what he meant. What was disturbing is Obama, and his mannerisms. The extreme leaning forward and bizarre look on his face. This guy doesn't know whether he is coming or going. Mitt is a strong, assertive, businessman with political experience. Actually, he has a lot more political experience than Barry did when he took office. Barry is just a gangly out-of-sorts guy who somehow got elected. Who do you want leading your country? I will go with the strenght and experience: Mitt.

Candy is such a fat slob, how did she get a job on TV? Romney was right and she lied just like Obama did about Benghazi. This obese woman should at least get her facts straight before she opens her big mouth.

IM a democrat and thought she was the worst moderator I have ever seen. The enitre psot debate is about HER not the canidates. Itjust makes the media looks horriblle and bias. I acutaly started feelign abd for Romney. She interupted him 28x and Obama 6x...I want Obama to win , but I dont want the media to influence it.

Obama is way over his pay scale. The libs are doing their dirty best to cover that, but they cannot.

She's a fat ugly liberal hack with an agenda. No wonder CNN is losing viewership. And she was wrong about Benghazi. Neither obama nor his surrogates blamed terrorism for weeks. obama even blame the video at the United Nations. btw., every moderator gave the Dems extra time. They were all hacks..

Popular or not, I really don't care. Some of these comments just show the narrow-mindedness and lack of adult maturity in the 20-something crowd of today. In reading some of the comments, it is interesting that the success or failure of the debate was not the positions of the candidates, but the body size of the moderator. Are you kidding me? Like the personal stature of the moderator altered the debate outcome. Give me a break...

Well in the prior debate, Romney interrupted President Obama numerous times. I found him to be rude and very disrespectful to the President. Also his facts were not right. He made many comments that were not true. Romney blows with the wind. Feels one way one time and then changes his mind. He has no respect for women or women's right to choose, make equal salaries to men, pay the same amount as men for health care, etc. Any woman who would vote for him must be a Stepford wife!
