Shaquille O'Neal

I Dropped $235k On

a Totally Normal House

11/4/2012 5:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Shaq's new totally normal house
Shaquille O'Neal
knows ... being rich and buying houses is fun ... so despite living in a GINORMOUS 70,000-square-foot mansion ... he dropped $235k on a second, regular person house 30 miles away.

Shaq -- who is reportedly worth around $250 million -- currently lives in an 11-bedroom, 13-bath PALACE outside Orlando, FL ... which includes a 20,000-square-foot basketball court and garage filled with DOZENS of sports cars!!!

But that just wasn't enough ... 'cause in July the former NBA superstar laid down $235k on a very normal 3,900-square-foot abode ... in a place called Mount Dora, FL.

It's unclear WHY the Shaq-ster bought the spare pad ... Investment? Gift? Kicks and giggles? But we do know the house is pretty nice -- for those of us not sitting on fat bank accounts.

The new pad is rockin' 5 bedrooms, 4 baths ... granite counter tops ... wet bar ... entertainment room ... and cherry cabinets. Which would all be really awesome ... if his other house wasn't WAY MORE awesome.

We reached out to Shaq's people to ask him about the new purchase ... but so far no word back.

For the people who keep saying "Maybe it's for his mistress or side piece." A: He's no longer married so any woman he sleeps with from now until he decides to get married again is and will be considered a jumpoff or girlfriend, and B: He's single (Because him and hoopz are so off and on it doesn't even count as a real relationship) so i'm sure if he didn't buy it for himself, it would be for the family. Get a clue.

is Shaq married? because if he is then this explains the purchase...lol...on top of that...the house is actually really good at $235K...I've seen smaller houses for twice that amount.

Shaq got a good deal on a nice home. BTW his purchase was not a foreclosure or a short sale. The area of Mt. Dora is a nice area it is not depressed. It is a retirement area but the neighborhood he bought in is a family community. The Florida real estate market has taken a severe beating since the housing collapse in 2006. He saw a good deal in a tough market. Who cares why he bought this normal home. That is the average selling price for homes outside of Orlando in Lake county around $50 to $60... per square foot. I am a local Realtor in Lake county....that is how I know.

Congratulations Shaquille O'Neil. I know a lot of people here in NY where Hurricane Sandy just swept through would like to have that much money to just pick up and buy a house for nothing at all. Who will live in it? Donate some money to these displaced families here that are suffering.

Could have given it to Sandy victims.

What's with all the "..." in this article? I know my comment has nothing to do with the actually story, but what's the point? Building suspense?

Typical self absorbed, selfish narcissist. Probably did it for kicks. These people dont give a rats ass about the down trodden. Doe he really need 70K sq ft of living space? Gimme a break

Mt. Dora

Mt. Dora is a beautiful little town. It's not a dump. This house is a typical larger production home built all around central Florida. Inside it is a production quality home with cheap finishings and appliances. The price is very typical for that quality of a home in central Florida. It is most likely in an average developement. Neither poor nor rich.Just middle class.

Good for him. He earned the money, so enjoy it. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to afford some heating oil this year. Got kinda' cold here in my home last year. 235k will go a very long way in my house. Wish I were talented like him.
