Pittsburgh Steelers RB

BOOTED from Team

For Allegedly Attacking GF

1/10/2013 12:26 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Rainey has just been fired from the team for allegedly attacking his girlfriend this morning in Florida, TMZ has learned.

Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert tells us, "Chris Rainey’s actions this morning were extremely disappointing. Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers."

As we reported. Chris allegedly flew off the handle this morning in Gainesville when his girlfriend swiped his phone -- and slapped her in the face.

Chris has been charged with battery stemming from the incident. He's currently still in custody.

He's not some no-name bench warmer either -- Rainey scored two touchdowns this season for the Black and Gold.

Two touchdowns in a 16 game season!? Sounds like a "no-name bench warmer to me".

the bottom line is that the Steelers are like $20 million over the cap next year...and dumping Rainey will save $$...but i still dont get why that rookie Ta-amau'?(or whatever his name is)is still on the team after his DUI POLICE-CHASE in the southside almost killed people and lucky4him the cops didnt shoot him...

UPDATE:....Roger Goodall has just announced that the NFL has a new policy....not the ROONEY RULE......the RAINEY RULE.....anytime a woman claims she's been wronged...no proof needed...immediate firing...But DUI homicide offenders and double-murderers are O.K...and may even qualify for a job at ESPN..,.

It's about time professional sports management put a consequence to bad behaviour. American men are so insecure, they have to beat women and perv on kids. Disgusting society.

Should've did it the right way and had a sister or a homegirl kick her azz.... Oh well.

I am so happy to see a team that is holding their players accountable. The message being sent is very clear to other players-current and upcoming. This is how it should be.

He was not yet charged with anything yet he was fired for an open handed slap. While I certainly do NOT condone domestic violence of any kind, the Steelers jumped the gun in this case. They clearly wanted him gone and found a way to get rid of him without having to pay him anything. If he ends up cleared of the charges, will they rehire him? Hmm.

This guy is a scrub. Plus this guy has gambling problems and actually got fined at a Casino after he signed onto a list that bans him from coming back to the Casino. Just part of the punks the steelers have on their team which is why they missed the playoffs. Good riddance Rainey!!
