Rick Springfield

For Blowing Off Court Date

Exclusive Details

Rick Springfield
was arrested today on a bench warrant stemming from his DUI case.

A rep for the L.A. County Sheriff's Department tells TMZ, deputies went to Rick's L.A. home this morning to execute the warrant ... but by the time he was being booked, Rick's attorney had the warrant recalled. Rick was subsequently released.

Rick posted an update on his Facebook from the Lost Hills sheriff station, writing, "I didn't know that I was supposed appear in court a few weeks ago. It was to do with the old DUI charge and it's been cleared up and I am free to go."

The bench warrant was issued Wednesday after Springfield failed to show up to court in February, when a rep for the court says he was supposed to show proof he completed an alcohol education program. Rick was also supposed to pay $1,555 in fines.

Springfield was ordered to complete the alcohol program as part of a plea deal he struck with prosecutors to keep his ass out of jail.

It all stems from Springfield's DUI arrest back in May 2011 -- when cops pulled over the singer's 1963 Corvette Stingray in Malibu ... and smelled booze.  Law enforcement sources told TMZ Rick threatened to kill the deputy and his family if he had the car towed.

As for today's arrest -- we're told Rick didn't threaten anyone.

Released after DUI, failure to appear, bench warrant and threatening to kill deputy and family. Well the LA celebrity justice system proves once again it is as incompetent as congress. Rick and Lindsay Lohan should get married.

I saw Rick Springfield interviewed recently on Dr. Oz and it sounds like that man has One More Rocky Past and Even Trying to Commit Suicide as a Teenager. He sounds Wild as a Mountain Goat! I am a Big Fan of Rick's because I'm an 80's Child. However, I bet Rick is Very Full of Himself and if you are keeping a scorecard then you know the Rich Always Get Freed. JMO!

You're all so freaking clueless, he's been riding his bike since his DUI he hasn't been driving. He's learned from his mistake. His career is hotter than is has been in years. He's been working with Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters and selling out every show he has across the country. He's been asked back to the Sweden's Rock Fest in June. Dude lives in some of you losers wish you could afford to live there and own a custom vette. Rick is a nice guy who appreciate his fans after a rocky past and knows that without us he wouldn't be where he is. Unlike some artitsts who think their **** don't stink.

I guess the overall message here is that although. D.U.I.'s are officially frowned upon ultimately it's not that's big of a deal with a decent lawyer. Wrong message to send. Can't these celebrities afford a cab if they're f*cked up???
