Twelve big celebs and political figures, including Jay-Z, Beyonce, are the victims of a hacker who has posted detailed information about what appears to be their finances ... and we've learned law enforcement is on the case.

A website -- we're not disclosing the name -- has posted social security numbers, mortgage amounts, credit card info, car loans, banking and other info of major celebs.  In addition to Beyonce and Jay-Z ... the site has snagged financial dossiers of Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, Ashton Kutcher, Joe Biden, Robert Mueller, Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.

The site was not able to get a lot on Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton, but most of the others on the list have had their financial info compromised.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the LAPD has already launched an investigation.  We're told the FBI is looking into it.

Posting banking and S.S. numbers and credit card info online is highly illegally. Someone stole my credit card info and stole money out of my account that I been saving for my Europe trip. It not funny rich or not it funny.

These are not celebrities, they are people who do stupid things to earn their money, the only two with any real talent are Mel Gibson and Ashton Kutcher, the rest of them are pieces of crap.

Why doesn't the FBI or the local police take this much of an interest when an average Joe has his information hacked and identity stolen? Guess we can't pay them enough ...

This stunt is designed to create news to make hacking an issue the government can "respond to" with more control over the internet. Just think for a moment. How do these supposed hackers gain from simply making the information public? They don't. The various persons shown on this website are alerted to the fraud and may be presumed to have already altered their various account numbers and settings. The only purpose of this exercise is to generate publicity to support an agenda of internet control by the government.
