Ellen & Portia

Drop $26.5 Million

On Astounding Cali Mansion

5/22/2013 12:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

It's the kinda house 99.999% of the world will never see ... let alone OWN -- but TMZ has learned, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi just purchased this $26.5 million mansion in Santa Barbara.

The deal went through last week, and words can't do justice to how insane this house is -- it's 10,522 square feet ... located in Montecito, which has some of the most beautiful vistas in Cali.  It's got 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms ... and it sits on 13 ACRES.

Oh yeah, it's also got NINE fireplaces ... and even the pool's got an ocean view.

And if that weren't crazy enough, it's just the latest house Ellen has added to her arsenal -- she also owns several other properties in the Los Angeles area, including homes in Beverly Hills and Hidden Valley.

Annnnnnd now we feel poor. Thanks, Ellen.

It's nice to see that even a 26.5 million house can have IKEA cabinets in the kitchen :) Beautiful house tho.

Can't even imagine what it cost per month to run a house like that.

Ellen seriously does not need to spend that kind of money on a house; what a total waste; People are starving out there. Her money would go A long way and serve her better in helping alot of people..

How can you call them lesbians, when Ellen is basically a dude?
She did hook a hot babe though!

They both seem like they could get a man, so I don't understand why they want to carry on like this. Neither of them seem very gay to me, except that they are together.

Portia seems so feminine and elegant and Ellen seems so friendly and nice. I don't understand why they want to be in such an awkward situation.

Do people do this to be cool or something? Do they do it to have their own identity? They could do that so much more authentically without this detour in their lives.

your own luck

The outside views are spectacular but the inside photos make the home look like a decorated dungeon.

This makes me wonder if men are really that bad. Did these women hook up with Fred Farkel somewhere? I know men can be horrible pigs, but why just play at a real marriage?

Sometimes the nicest women are the ones who get hurt the most by men. Then there is no telling how they will react. I am not making an excuse for this behavior, but i am wondering why the choice even came up.

I think the house has an Italian villa feel to it. I think I counted three different living rooms. The kitchen looks big enough for a hotel. I wonder why two people need or want so much room. It just means more to heat and clean and take care of. Then the property taxes always get you.

I think it is pretty though.

It's a stunning home, something we might see in Italy. It's a wise investment, Ellen has to sock her money somewhere.

I don't know why someone would feel poor for not having this. This kind of home is very hard to take care of. You have to hire the right staff and manage them, which can be hard in itself. If you have something small that you can manage and enjoy, that is all you really need.

Everyone uses their houses for pretty much the same basic things. If you have somewhere to sit, eat relax, and socialize, that pretty much covers it.

Remember Robin Leach getting so excited over looking at mansions that they could barely contain himself? If it was so great living in one, you think the stars would be the happiest people in the world but somehow they aren't so much.
