Philip Seymour Hoffman

Entered Detox

For Narcotic Abuse

Philip Seymour Hoffman just got out of detox for a drug problem that was spinning out of control ... a problem he desperately wanted to nip in the bud ... and he's already back doing a movie.

Hoffman -- who struggled with substance abuse in the past but kicked the habit for 23 years -- fell off the wagon more than a year ago.  He tells TMZ it started slowly with prescription pills, and recently escalated to snorting heroin.

Hoffman -- who won a Best Actor Oscar in 2006 for "Capote" -- tells us the heroin use only lasted a week or so and he quickly realized he needed help, so he checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast.

He says he was at the facility for 10 days and checked out last Friday.  Hoffman credits what he calls "a great group of friends and family" for helping him seek the treatment he needed to get better.

And at least for now, it seems it worked, because Hoffman is clean and back on a movie set in Europe.

Ha! He couldn't do a film without paying a detox facility to sign off on "treatment". Ten days is a joke. It takes 30-60... days of in residence treatment and then another year of daily to weekly therapy sessions to keep them on their program. Five years without a relapse is considered clean, but always an addict.

This is tough. Heroin and meth are the worst.

I am really conflicted. On the one hand, he is one of the truly talented actors, living today, and has treated us all to magnificent performances on stage and screen. On the other hand, you have to ask, why is a person who has this much grasp on the human psyche to be able to manipulate it to that extent, not able to understand that drugs are the stupidest of escape mechanisms? I just don't buy the Zen answer that among such strength there is weakness. I know people with the same amount of talent, half the opportunities, and five times the disappointments and pressures and they don't fold into such self-absorbed BS.

A junkie cannot, I repeat, CANNOT ever take prescribed opiates for pain. Once a junkie, always a junkie. That sounds harsh but it's true.

OK. Whatever. When he voted for Obama he started his nose-dive. The guilt and remorse for voting for Obama made him a junkie. AND NO WONDER!!!!
