11:52 AM PT -- Paula's rep issued a statement to TMZ ... saying, "Ms. Deen does not condone or find the use of racial epithets acceptable. She is looking forward to her day in court.”

gray-bar-update
When Paula Deen was asked, under oath, if she has ever used the N-word -- she responded, "Yes, of course" ... and the shocking admission was all captured on tape.

Deen was being deposed in connection with a pending sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former employee who claims she was subjected to a barrage of racist, sexist and generally inappropriate comments while she worked at Paula's Oyster House restaurant in Georgia.

Here are the highlights from the jaw-dropping depo:

Lawyer: Have you ever used the N-word yourself?
Paula: Yes, of course.

Lawyer: Okay. In what context?
Paula: Well, it was probably when a black man burst into the bank that I was working at and put a gun to my head.

Sidenote -- Paula was held up at gunpoint during a bank robbery in 1986.

Lawyer: Okay. And what did you say?
Paula: Well, I don't remember, but the gun was dancing all around my temple ... I didn't -- I didn't feel real favorable towards him.

Lawyer: Okay. Well, did you use the N-word to him as he pointed a gun in your head at your face?
Paula: Absolutely not.

Lawyer: Well, then, when did you use it?
Paula: Probably in telling my husband.

Lawyer: Okay. Have you used it since then?
Paula: I'm sure I have, but it's been a very long time.

Lawyer: Can you remember the context in which you have used the N-word?
Paula: No.

Lawyer: Has it occurred with sufficient frequency that you cannot recall all of the various context in which you've used it?
Paula: No, no.

Lawyer: Well, then tell me the other context in which you've used the N-word?
Paula: I don't know, maybe in repeating something that was said to me.

Lawyer: Like a joke?
Paula: No, probably a conversation between blacks. I don't -- I don't know. But that's just not a word that we use as time has gone on. Things have changed since the '60s in the south. And my children and my brother object to that word being used in any cruel or mean behavior. As well as I do.

We reached out to Paula for comment -- so far, no word back.

I do not defend what Paula said but I do defend her First Amendment Rights. If she wants to make herself look ignorant, knock yourself out.

Using the N-word does not make you racist. It all depends on context. If you go around looking for reasons to believe someone is racist, you live a sad life.

She's a racist if you used the word once you've used it many times afterward ...

I hope for Deen's sake...this is exxagerrated and not true. I really liked her and would hate to drop her as I did with Martha Stewart....and I really hope the slave comments and the sexual harassment by her brother is not true; but I have a sneaking suspicion its all true...especially since she admitted the brother watched porn in his office that he shared with this woman that is now suing them. And to think...she promoted her career and boosted her stocks & book sales by appearing on the Oprah show. Who would have ever thought this is how she feels about people that look like Oprah.

While I don't use nor condone the use of the N word, I can understand why she would feel comfortable using that word. As a southern girl born in 1947 who grew-up during the civil rights movement of the 50's and 60s, I can only imagine the kind of small town, fear-based, vitriolic language she would hear from the adults around her. She was raised with that "us and them" mentality.

That said, as an adult, (especially one with the unique experience of attaining fame and a substantial [and diverse] fanbase) she should know better, and hopefully she's truthful when she says that she no longer uses that word.

I am so sick of this neruolinguistic programming by twisting the meaning of words. People are not racist or not racist in a bad way if they use a word. This is so stupid. Everyone probably favors their own race or feels attacked by another race.

N just mean an Africa. Why is that a bad word? There are people who try to make Jew into a bad word, because people mistreated Jews while calling them Jews. Jews still want to be called Jews and blacks call each other N.

She was not brow beating anyone with the word from what I can tell.

First of all the n word should be off limits to all races people get offended cause that is the word. Created to discribe black people when you hear the word your first thought is oh it must be some black person but really it can be used to describe. All ignorant. People I'm black and I hate the word from any race!!!! I liked paula too but now lets pray for her family and all involved especially. The young lady

I find it funny how this word is shoved down our throats through media and entertainment such as rap music, movies, and video games and no one cares but if a white person says it all he'll brakes lose. Should white people not be able to listen to rap music? See movies such as django unchained? Or play video games like grad theft auto? Many races have been enslaved only one continues to let it plague their life

Give me a break... I grew up in a city in the 70's that started busing and created racial tension by over crowding schools. The "N" word was used constantly, but especially by the black kids calling EACHOTHER that! If you grew up in that era it was different. They were referred to by the "N" name, more to identify what group they were, just as the jocks, cheerleaders and stoners were referred to.
