Liev Schreiber

NOT Playing Chris Benoit

In Tragic Biopic

7/11/2013 12:12 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

Liev Schreiber
will NOT be playing wrestler Chris Benoit -- who murdered his wife and son in 2007, then committed suicide -- in a biopic about the wrestler's life ... despite reports to the contrary ... Liev's rep tells TMZ.

Rumors swirled that Schreiber had signed on to play Benoit in the film "Crossface" -- which has been in the works since 2011 -- but we're told it just ain't so.

Benoit's story is as tragic as they come ... with the wrestler turning on his wife and 7-year-old son in a violent rage that may have been caused by brain injuries he sustained during his wrestling career.

So far, no official word on who IS set to play the troubled wrestler in the biopic.

There was no evidence that it was a violent rage. There were bibles left by their sides and the son was drugged before so that he didn't feel any pain. Obviously this does NOT excuse Chris Benoit but he clearly had some serious mental issues that go far beyond steroids or drugs. His brain was seriously damaged from all of the headbutts and injuries. I just wish they would move on and not resurrect this awful tragedy. There is no need to make a s movie out of something so awful and so controversial especially when no one has any idea what really went on inside that house in those final days.It was awful enough when it happened. Bringing it back into the forefront is just stupid and once again, a ratings ploy with no regard for the family members who lost their loved ones.

Not sure if he has the acting chops, but the wrestler Jericho comes to mind in the looks department.

But what actor really wants this part? Seems ugly to make money off of it and could hinder their image/future-roles being the lead.

TMZ very good another Celebrity story. Yet you still do not give a byline to the writer.
Harvey, Charles and the entitled son Evan get the credit. Common Harvey you are a publication give the reporter the byline.

Why would I get 2 hates when just asking Harvey to give the reporters their due with a byline. All publications do this except TMZ. Is TMZ forcing staffers to down vote the comments section I am seeing a pattern.

This "story" didn't to be addressed. If you did any research you'd see that the original source for the rumor is MoviePilot.com. They use reader contributions and the source of this Benoit story? Some kid who looks 12 years old named RJ Yow. Of course 6'3" Liev isn't playing 5'6" Benoit.

God sometimes people are so stupid about "news"

The wrestling websites saying this rumor are all quoting that it comes from a website, MoviePilot.com

I went there. It's a fan contribution site and the person who "broke" this story is a kid named RJ Yow who looks like he is 12 years old. Plus uh, Liev is only about 9 inches taller than Benoit was. Not exactly a good fit.

This is not a story that needs to be made into a movie. What a nightmare for the family to have to live through this again. Thankfully, Liev Schreiber has better sense than to get involved with this mess.

Why would anyone want to see a movie about such a sad and tragic life, and who in their right mind would make such a film

Why would anyone think that making a movie about this Sociopath would be a good idea. Who would pay to see it?

The movie industry in Southern California is slowly going extinct. Just like modern music, there is no more talent, creativity, originality or motivation to make a good movie. All is left in our Entertainment industry are short cut specialist and exploiters and hanger-ons.
