Michael Douglas' Ex-Wife

'I Stand By Michael...

Let Me See My Son!'

9/23/2013 12:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Michael Douglas and his ex-wife -- who once battled bitterly -- are in lockstep over what they call the barbaric treatment of their imprisoned son ... TMZ has learned.

Diandra De Morrell Douglas tells TMZ ... their son Cameron has been treated like an animal while in solitary confinement at the Cumberland Federal Prison in Maryland.  He's serving 10 years for heroin possession and conspiracy to distribute narcotics.  Cameron failed a drug test in prison and was placed in solitary until recently.

As you know ... Michael talked about Cameron after winning an Emmy for "Behind the Candelabra," saying he wants to visit his son badly but isn't allowed.

Diandra tells us when Cameron got out of solitary he couldn't walk in the daylight, because his skin would burn because it couldn't adapt after living in an underground hole for so long.  His hair is also falling out.

Diandra says even though Cameron is out of solitary, part of his punishment is no visitors.

We called prison officials ... they were very abrupt with us, and said everything's confidential.

Guess he thinks because he is famous that he should get special treatment. In this case, the same rules apply to him as well.

I'm afraid Mommy is exaggerating quite a bit here. It's not that bad in that prison! Furthermore, prison isn't supposed to be nice. Maybe your son shouldn't have been a druggie and dealing drugs! How about talking about getting him help when he gets out instead of whining about and lying about the conditions there.

A few years ago, I posted a comment on TMZ directed at Michael Douglas about Cameron when he was a small child. I asked if he could remember how many times Cameron went to him with questions and got no answers. I also said, "You don't remember, do you." Later, he appeared on TV and said he was trying to build his career. My heart went out to Cameron, then, and goes out to him, now. Many celebrities have children who grew up to become fine citizens because the parents took time to listen to them instead of pushing them away. A small child grows up confused not understanding neglect. Who knows what Cameron would have accomplished if only his parents and, even his family, had taken time to listen. Unfortunately, this is one of the most tragic personal life stories of a young man in, decades.

Due to a failed drug test? B.S.

A little reminder why he is really in solitary confinement:

Headline and excerpt via the UK's Daily Mail:

' Michael Douglas' son Cameron to serve nearly 10 years in prison as court upholds doubled sentence for being caught using drugs while incarcerated '

In 2010, Judge Richard Berman gave Douglas a lenient sentence from what otherwise would have been a 10-year mandatory minimum term as Douglas began cooperating with authorities.

But his generosity ran out after Douglas was caught repeatedly violating prison rules by arranging to get drugs, including four instances in which he convinced a 33-year-old lawyer he was romantically involved with to smuggle anti-anxiety prescription drugs into prison in her bra.

The lawyer entered into a deferred prosecution agreement that enables charges against her to be dropped if she stayed out of trouble for six months.

He also had convinced a girlfriend to smuggle heroin that was hidden in an electric toothbrush to him while he was under house arrest in 2009.

In court papers submitted to the appeals court, attorney Paul Shechtman said Douglas drank heavily and began experimenting with drugs while a teenager, using illegal drugs 'to self-medicate – to ward off depression and panic attacks.'

He said Douglas was using intravenous cocaine by age 20 and heroin by age 25. Shechtman did not immediately return a message for comment.

The drug-addict son of Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas has suffered severe injuries, including a broken leg and fingers, after being attacked in prison.

Douglas was apparently attacked after an unnamed New York crime boss put a $100 bounty on his head for being a ‘rat.’

During a 2010 bail hearing, Cameron’s psychiatrist inadvertently revealed that his client had snitched to the police about his drug suppliers, David and Eduardo Escalera, during his original sentencing hearing.

‘He broke his femur, which is hard to snap, and had to have a rod inserted,’ a source told The New York Post.

Speaking publicly about his son, Michael Douglas said in 2010 that he thought prison might be a ‘blessing in disguise’ for his wayward son. He assumed blame for ‘being a bad father’ but said that without prison intervention, Cameron ‘was going to be dead or somebody was gonna kill him. I think he has a chance to start a new life, and he knows that.’

During last year’s sentencing for smuggling drugs into prison, Cameron Douglas told the court that he was ‘ashamed’ of what he had done.

Funny how TMZ failed to mention those facts.

It must really suck for his parents. I wonder if he gave any thought to that while he sat in solitary? Maybe he won't do anymore drugs! Now he knows what will happen if he has another dirty test! It will only be worse next time. It's a sad situation.

...well don't do the crime, if you can't do the time...

Maybe the parents spoiling/protecting/coddling him is what contributed to his problems to begin with...

He's still using drugs inside prison.
He needs psychological help to learn the root of his problems.
He needs to learn coping mechanisms so he's able to handle daily issues instead of getting upset & using.

If not . . . he'll be using within a week of being released.

Um he's in prison noton vacation. He's being treated like the criminal he is.

Why would someone that was born rich, who doesn't need to sell drugs, get involved in a conspiracy to sell drugs? If he was bored he could have done Donny other constructive things, but instead, all this destructive behavior! Only shows low self esteem.

Wha,wha, wha - he's lucky he is there and not in North Branch Correctional Facility 11 miles away - that's one mother of a prison (don't do the crime if you can't do the time) apparently he had time, so deal with it!
