Paul Walker

Death Car May Have Malfunctioned

12/2/2013 6:25 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

1201_walker_car_rodas_tmz_facebookThe exotic sports car in which Paul Walker violently died, crashed as a result of mechanical failure -- very possibly a steering fluid leak ... this according to sources closely tied to the auto shop where the vehicle was stored and maintained.

Sources connected to Always Evolving -- the shop co-owned by Walker and the Porsche driver Roger Rodas -- tell TMZ they saw evidence of a fluid burst and subsequent fluid trail before the skid marks at the accident scene.

The AE sources point to the fact there is a noticeable absence of skid marks until just before the point of impact. They say if Roger had lost control the skid marks would show swerving, but instead the marks were in a straight line. They feel this cements the theory the driver didn't have steering control.

Also suspicious -- the fire spreading so quickly in the front of the car. The sources say flames would be expected in the rear where the engine is ... but fire in the front reinforces their theory of a fluid leak of some sort.

113013_paul_walker_burning_launchWe're told the $500,000 Carrera GT was NOT modified and was driven rarely so they believe any failure must be a factory defect.

As one source put it ... "Roger was a world class driver" -- and while he might have been speeding (as cops have said) ... the notion he just lost control is preposterous.

Cold tires will bite you every time. You have to warm them up before you ''get on it''.

Also clear, the driver was speeding. Spin it anyway you like, speed is the number one killer on the road. Number one.

Tragic loss, but all due to stupidity.

That car is an absolute piece of crap. I can't believe it was totaled AND burst into flame from that tiny tree.

There are some stupid a.s.s. people on this site commenting. If u have nothing good to say then say nothing. Two people lost their lives and two families are grieving. Stop laying blame. It could have happened to anyone and it has happened to actual race car drivers. When God calls you home its just time. Im pretty sure that it wasn't his first time driving a car that fast and he owned a Porsche when the two met years ago. I pray for the families of both Paul and Roger. May you both R.I.P. And to the the person who says he was showing off, you dumb a$$, when have you test drove a car and NOT put the pedal to the floor? They were test driving a car, idiots!!!!!

Before Walker got into the car, there were obvious signs that the car might have had mechanical problems. I bet that Walker insisted to take a ride nevertheless and he insisted, not the driver, to drive the car at it's limit in a 49mph zone.

Late model cars with anti-lock brakes don't leave skid marks so there is no credibility to this TMZ story-as usual….

What a ridiculous and reckless conclusion for the "sources" to state the accident is a result of a Porsche factory defect. No competent investigator or mechanic would reach such a conclusion from a distance, let alone in such short order.

Are we really to believe that nobody laid a wrench on the car? No modifications? Really? What about speed as the contributing factor, or outright negligence on the part of the driver?

Walker's "team" are a bit quick on the trigger. They will probably regret that response.

This whole story is just so sad,two people lost their lives. Yes they should not have been speeding on a public road, but they did not deserve to die. I can't even keep count of how many people are saying they deserved it. No one deserves to die. RIP Paul and Roger.

The Carrera GT is an extremely dangerous car, It's a death trap and it's known as the "Widow Maker" by many car enthusiasts. Even in the hands of a professional race driver, One small mistake in that car and it can take your life.
Rest In Peace to Paul and Roger, May they race in paradise.

What is this bicycle handlebars doing in the road? (in the 37 seconds of the video above) This is not looking as a factory defect of the Porche.

Stop coining unthoughtful terms like "Death Car"; what's wrong with just saying "car may have malfunctioned". It's a bit tacit and in poor taste to sensationalize the death of two men. Then again, who am I kidding? This is TMZ we're talking about. Never mind, carry on.

You idiots. The Carrera GT and all 911 series Porsches have gas tank in front. That's what caused the explosion. Now, as for faulty stuff - i hope Porsche gets sued to the hell for it. RIP Paul. ♥

Ok dont blame some one else for this accident they were going too fast there is no other cause than two stupid people doing something reckless that leads to their death
Would you be blaming the empire state building if both of these idiots jumped off of it They were both reckless and doing something that is illegal
Had they walked away from this crash yet killed 5 children would you morons be rip for them and demanding paul and his buddy go to prison
No you would not
Dont blame some one else for your own stupidity
