Philip Seymour Hoffman's Will

Keep My Son Away from Hollywood

Philip Seymour Hoffman
's dying wish was to keep his children far, far away from Hollywood -- this according to the actor's will.

TMZ obtained a copy of PSH's will -- drawn up in 2004 -- and according to the document, Hoffman requested that his son Cooper (back then his only child) be raised in Manhattan ... in order to be surrounded by the culture, arts, and architecture of the city.

If NYC turned out to be impossible, Hoffman asked for his son to be raised in Chicago or San Francisco. And if that didn't work out either, Hoffman wanted his son to visit these cities at least TWICE per year ... for cultural purposes.

The glaring omission on his list is obviously Los Angeles -- interesting because Hoffman was a big time Hollywood actor who spent lots of time in L.A.

Clearly, he didn't think it was a suitable city to raise a kid in.

As for the entirety of his estate, Hoffman left the whole shebang to his longtime partner and the mother of his 3 children, Mimi O'Donnell.

Yeh umm ok Philip. Why not just put down they are to move here to Australia? Then they would live a non-hollywood life. All the cities you listed are hotbeds for crime, drugs and an early death.

Addiction is a sad state but his Will sounds like he had some comprehension about the world he was in. Glad he left it to the mother so that the children (all minors) can be cared for.

Very sad. But, absolutely right about Hollywood and LA.
It's a horrible business.

Maybe he felt like a Rochester rube and thought those cities would make his kids into intellectual sophisticates, but the truth is they are more likely to turn kids into cruel snobs who, if they've inherited his genetic predisposition to drug addiction, will have a needle in their arm before lunch. His insecurity speaking. It's all about him. Jmo.

i truly feel and pray for Mr. Hoffman's family and s wish should brespectedby the powers that be...hollywood is a human juice blender my only complaint is that the REALLY worthless folks there [a.k.a. Paris Hilton] were born too damned clever to die instead of real talents like Philip Hoffman!

Its too bad he took his own life, but if he really cared about his son, he might have considered being a better role model, clean up his act, and stick around to make sure his son steered clear of hollywood, instead of depending on others to make it happen....I personally think he was selfish...an accomplished actor, money to live well and support his family, but ho hum, just couldn't stay away from drugs...
