They don't call 'em Steely Dan for nothing -- at least according to a former singer for the band, who claims the classic rock group stiffed him big time on royalties.

David Palmer is suing the group, claiming his lead vocals on songs like "Dirty Work" were an integral part of Steely Dan's debut album in 1972 -- but he's only received an insulting $8,183 worth of royalties stemming from radio play.

Palmer -- who left the group in 1973 -- is repulsed by the money ... insisting his royalties share entitles him to way, way more.

He's suing for unspecified damages.

Who wrote the songs? Most of the time royalties go to the songwriters.

Not sure if David Palmer has a case, but much respect to him for his part in The Dan. As far as I know (and I've been a huge Dan fan since first hearing them as an 11 year old back in '72) Steely Dan has always been the duo of Donald and Walter, with a revolving cast of musicians playing and/or singing on their albums. These musicians were/are some of the best in the business.

Dirty Work was played as 'American Hustle' opening Title is rolling, but that song didn't make the soundtrack.

Was wondering why, maybe this is the reason....

Dirty Work is a track I always skip, looking to never do it without the fez on.
