Mickey Rooney

Dead at 93

4/6/2014 7:37 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0406_mickey_rooney_getty2Mickey Rooney, who spent nearly his entire life in show business, died today. He was 93.

Rooney had been in ill health for quite some time.  We're told death was attributed to natural causes.

He was one of the most famous child actors in entertainment history. He played the role of Andy Hardy in more than a dozen classic MGM films.

Rooney also teamed up with Judy Garland for "Babes in Arms" which was a huge hit back in 1939.

He was the first teenager ever to be nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in "Strike Up the Band" in 1940.

Rooney and Elizabeth Taylor starred in one of the biggest movies of the 40s -- "National Velvet" -- which launched Taylor's career.

Rooney also starred with Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Rooney appeared most recently in "The Muppets" in 2011 with Amy Adams and Jason Segel and "Night at the Museum" in 2006 with Ben Stiller.

The 5'2" Rooney was married 8 times.  One of his wives -- Ava Gardner.

Rooney's last few years were filled with family strife.  He claimed elder abuse at the hands of his step-son Chris Aber and won a $2.8 million judgment against him last year for siphoning money from his accounts.

Rooney testified before the U.S. Senate to discuss his personal story of abuse.

oh really

And yes, I did just notice the "Hardy Boys " reference, which is wrong :((
Maybe TMZ should have gone with "Boys Town" so they wouldnt get confused..That was another classic.
Maybe Harvey should put his teeth in , and call his staff up and correct this .
Kinda disrespectful, not to get a obituary notice correct

Do your research TMZ! The "Andy Hardy" comedy series is completely different from the "Hardy Boys" mysteries! Anyhow - he is a legend who worked with some if the greatest beauties if Hollywoods Golden Age.

Sad to hear. I didn't watch any of his early work but I do know who he is and know he is a MALE as is his not her TMZ. Please have someone proofread the articles before they are posted. It's like reading some of the poorly written comments (including mine).

Another site called him the original "Hardy Boy" because of his many roles as the character Andy Hardy. TMZ obviously just stole their story and didn't understand the reference to "Hardy Boy" and just assumed he was in a movie called The Hardy Boys.

Ahem: Mr. Rooney played Andy Hardy in the 'Andy Hardy' series at M-G-M. In the spirit of 'The Hardy Boys', however, I say to TMZ: GET A CLUE.

Mickey Rooney was in 20 "Andy Hardy" movies. Andy Hardy was not one of the "Hardy Boys" of he teen mystery genre. From comedy to drama and from childhood through adulthood he was a great actor.
I had the pleasure of meeting him several times and found him to be very nice. He seemed to exude energy and was very charismatic.
He will be missed by many. So long Mick.
