Christmas shoppers can rest somewhat at ease because at least in L.A. and surrounding areas, undercover cops on high alert are blending in with the crowd.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, the LAPD and other departments have sent plain clothed cops to various high-profile malls around the city, literally looking for trouble. We're also told on the LAPD front, the elite Metro Division is a stone's throw from the malls and other high-profile areas and are ready to pounce if need be.
Law enforcement sources tell us there have been suspects they have tailed and even detained ... on one case cops were concerned enough to pass a photo of the suspect around various L.A. hotels, but in that case the guy had no terrorist connection and was completely cleared.
