April Fools’ Chaos Hits Sports World, Edelman ‘Returns,’ Melo ‘Signs,’ Fans Duped
April Fools' Day Edelman ‘Back,’ Melo to Lakers?! ... Sports World Flooded W/ Fake News
April Fools’ Day had the sports world in a blender Wednesday … with fake comebacks, bogus fight cards and unhinged team announcements flying all over the internet ... and plenty of people got got.
Leading the charge was former NFL star Julian Edelman, who had fans thinking he was dusting off the cleats for a New England Patriots return after posting a slick “Let’s get to work #FoxboroForever” graphic.

Problem is … Edelman retired in 2021 and has repeatedly said he’s staying that way. But hey, toss in a dramatic font and a little nostalgia, and suddenly everyone’s spiraling.
Tom Brady had fans doing a double take after his E1 electric boat racing team dropped a “major announcement” -- claiming the seven-time Super Bowl champ was coming out of retirement to race in Italy.
According to the post, Brady was suiting up as a driver for his own team in the E1 World Championship at Lake Como later this month -- yeah, don’t count on it.

The NBA world wasn’t spared, either … a viral post from Clutch Points had Carmelo Anthony coming out of retirement to rejoin the Los Angeles Lakers for a playoff push … allegedly “per Shams.”

And if that didn’t stress you out enough, a popular Mavs fan account sent Dallas Mavericks supporters into a panic by claiming head coach Jason Kidd had been fired amid a rough 24-52 season.
Over in the fight world, Arman Tsarukyan decided to swing big ... claiming he was headlining the White House UFC Freedom 250 card against Ilia Topuria after Justin Gaethje supposedly dropped out. (Spoiler: Gaethje remains on the card.)
“I guess it’s my lucky day,” he wrote. “Get well soon, Justin.”

Then there was Cleveland … the Browns unveiled a “new era” helmet, which was literally just their same orange lid … now featuring their orange helmet logo on the orange helmet. Meanwhile, the city’s incoming WNBA franchise teased the name “Ohio Wolverines” in maize and blue colors -- a direct shot at the state’s army of Ohio State fans.
If your timeline felt like absolute nonsense today … it’s because it was.
