Borat Lawsuit

High Five!!!

11/9/2006 9:26 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

How's this for the beginning of a lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court? -- "Sacha Baron Cohen is a prankster."

Two anonymous plaintiffs are suing 20th Century Fox and One America Productions, claiming members of their college fraternity were interviewed to become part of the smash "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" film.

The plaintiffs -- listed as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2 -- were allegedly assured the film would not be shown in the U.S. and their identities would not be revealed.

They were both selected to appear in the movie and, according to the suit, taken "to a drinking establishment 'to loosen up' and provided alcoholic beverages." They claim they signed the movie releases after "heavy drinking."

The suit claims both men were then taken to a motor home where they were filmed, all the while "encouraged to continue drinking."

The movie features a scene in a motor home where Cohen gets drunk with three frat boys who go on a racist rant about how they wished they had slaves and how minorities in the United States "have all the power."

According to the lawsuit, the frat boys only received $200 for the controversial appearance.

The plaintiffs claim they suffered "humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional and physical distress, loss of reputation, goodwill and standing in the community..." because the movie was indeed released in the U.S.

The suit asks for unspecified damages.

Calls to 20th Century Fox were not immediately returned.

Give me a break...a total waste of time...first of all, they don't have a leg to stand on, the "I was drunk" defence is NO DEFENCE! They signed a release, they're screwed. The lawsuit is just added proof of what a pair of frat knuckleheads these two are. Some slick sidestreet lawyer or 3rd year "Know-it-all" convinced them that there are big bucks to be made here and they will be lucky if they don't get stuck with the legal fees from BOTH sides for launching a frivolous lawsuit.

Ok first of all, at no point in the movie did they ever say what fraternity they're in. With the lawsuit, people now know. Seems they fucked over themselves?

Second, these fuck sticks are just mad that they only got $200 bucks for the appearance, which probably didn't even cover the cost of all the beer they drank. They couldn't give a shit about "humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional and physical distress, loss of reputation..." that shit comes standard with a fraternity.

Instead of joining a fraternity, join a group that is actually related to your major and actually poses a future benefit, I did and I had more benefits the first meeting than I did when I rushed a fraternity for weeks (I quit a week before initiation). I agree with some here that fraternities suck and are just drinking clubs (they are) and you're basically buying expensive friends (dues aren't cheap),but the article isn't about fraternity boys, it just so happens that these ass clowns are in one. The same could have happened with three non fraternity boys.

I hope Borat or whatever his name is wins. He took a fat guy's balls to the face, spoke freely about slavery, and attacked Pamela Anderson; he deserves a little cash for it.

They said it, they own it. They should shut the hell up and wouldn't have anything to cry about then.

"Frats are for loser men who need to be in a crowd to feel empowered.
HAHAHAH Jackasses".......You mean like rappers or P. Diddy and the rest with their big "possies"?

Let me get this straight. Mel Gibson says that most wars were because of Jews and people are ready to hang him. These boys say they want slavery back and the other Seinfeld guys says not one, but many things, some of them graphic and not worth repeating, and its not even an issue for discussion. We just say they're pussyes for wanting to sue because someone caught them being themselves.
Hmmm . . .

what a coincedence people are suing the #1 movie. would they of sued if it would of been a flop at the box office? what a bunch of money hungry a**holes!!! they shouldn't get a penny and be further "humiliated". how do you even prove mental anguish? give me a fu**ing break!!!!!

First of all, I find it hard to believe that these guys signed an agreement during the last week in October, and didn't know that this film was going to be released in the United States. The commercials were EVERYWHERE!!

Secondly, that complaint is one of the worst written legal documents I have ever seen. It contains a number of glaring errors, and if I were the paralegal who wrote it, I'd have to consider suing anyone who published it, online or otherwise, because they'd be causing me shame and emotional hardship.

Just as Mel Gibson learned (the hard way) booze does not make you a bigot, it just makes you uninhibited. These guys are upset that their uninhibited ramblings revealed them for the bigots that they truly are.
