Leno vs. Conan vs. NBC

The War is On

1/18/2010 9:35 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Conan O'Brien and NBC are at war ... each accusing the other of bad, bad behavior.

Leno vs. Conan vs. NBC -- The War is On
Sources connected to Conan O'Brien tell TMZ NBC honcho Jeff Zucker has been "nasty, arrogant and threatening" in negotiating Conan's out. The Conan people are outraged, saying the blame for the Jay Leno/'ConanO'Brien/"Tonight Show" debacle falls squarely at Zucker's doorstep.

Jay Leno: Click to watchAn NBC spokesperson tells TMZ, as for claims Zucker has been nasty, arrogant and threatening, "There is absolutely no truth to that. It is easy to make false statements under the cloak of anonymity."

We're told Conan is so pissed off at NBC, he told the network he was leaving even though he still doesn't have a place to go -- at least not yet. Sources say Fox still has not made an offer.

An NBC source connected to the negotiations tells TMZ Conan "has acted like a baby" since the network announced the changes. The source claims NBC made $25 mil in profits off "The Tonight Show" the last full calendar year Leno hosted. The source says the projected loss for 2010 had Conan stayed put was $3 - 5 million. So NBC says it's simple math.

We're told the NBC/Conan deal still isn't finalized.

These two men have more money than any one person should ever have and what's worse is neither one of them are funny. The "Tonight Show" should have ended with Johnny! Period.
So, there are "paid NBC shills" here watching and reading? GOOD.
Then listen up and take it back to YOUR boss Zucker. NBC SUCKS!
They cancel GREAT shows (Trauma, Southland, Friday Night Lights) and they pay big goofs, big money thinking that WE the viewers would rather watch their lame jokes and see the rich hollywood interviews verses watching T.V. drama!
Here's a wish......NBC, NO MORE! Why, because they don't care about the viewer! If I never see Leno who RUINED prime time viewing, or Conan again,I would be thrilled! Both NO TALENT rich men who are NOT funny yet NBC and their cheap ways pay them big money while using the excuse that to produce Trauma "cost too much". I NO LONGER watch ANY NBC line-up. I hope many other viewers will follow suit. They can't make a good decision to save themselves! And as for Zucker....he's making big bucks to do WHAT, exactly? Other than make BAD decisions. P.S. REALITY SHOWS are boring, cheap to make, and that is why NBC loves them. The everyday viewer is SICK of them.
Keep TRAUMA, bring back Southland....Oh wait it's on a network I now watch. And...tell direct TV to go blow and get Friday Night Lights back! what most loyal NBC viewers want. Until you do, you'll always be just a loser network!

if conan failed it's your fault nbc...they hired conan o'brian...not a jay leno wannabe...nbc is laying all the blame on conan...why didn't nbc help conan develop his show/let him be himself instead of fighting him and trying to change him? why would they hire a comedian and try to change what evidentially attracted them to him in the first place?
nbc didn't want conan to succeed all along...they wanted him to fail...and all the controversy it stirred up at conan's expense surely pumped up ratings for nbc...didn't it? what gutless creeps you are nbc! you built him up so you can tear him down! stir up the pot...draw in viewers....this sought of behavior seems to be what to do to get the press/public to pay attention to you...and it has worked again too...hasn't it?

Conans show wasn't the one being cancelled, Jay's was, yet Conan is the one who gets dumped. Something wrong here. The affiliates were pulling the plug on Jay's show due to bad ratings but were willing to give Conan a chance(like Jay had 17 years ago) to get his show rolling. Also Conan had to deal with Jay's crappy lead in loosing viewers instead of a tried and true drama and the fact that what viewers Jay had were old Tonight Show faithfuls who got their fix at 10 and didn't stay up to watch the REAL Tonight Show with Conan. Conan got screwed and NBC knows it, now they are trying to make Conan out to be the bad guy? Unbelievable.

Gee, there is a shock: you strip away Conan's audience by putting a virtually identical show on at 10:00 (so people will just get their fix earlier, or PVR Jay's show and watch it when they would have watched Conan but without the commercials) AND reduce the number of people watching at 11:35 by leading into the news with inferior programming than when Jay had the big show, and you're SURPRISED that the show didn't do well financially? Give me a break - that's the worst effort at spin I've seen since Michael Jackson said that little boys sleeping in his room was totally innocent.

What goes around comes around... not much different than the NBC/Jay Leno/David Letterman war.

Team No one! This is really ridicules of all the things happening in real news were worried about these two, there both stinkly rich, I don't blame Jay or Conan. Even though Zucker take responsibility he should have said that this was not Jay fault, Jay reputation has been. Zucker is one major screw up.

Conan SUE Zucker and NBC, take them both 2 the cleaners. go Coco. Zucker and Leno are 2 a**es.

Someone's full of crap. IIRC, the Tonight Show used
to spin revenues in the 150-200 Million dollar a
year range. There is no way there would be a 3-5
Million dollar loss during Conan's first year of
the show, since the advertising is usually sold
between 6 months and a year in advance.

Hey NBC.... you think maybe your profit loss may have something to do with the fact that instead of popular 10pm dramas, Conan has had Leno's crappy show as his lead-in?
