Padres Going Camouflage to Salute Troops

5/2/2011 12:05 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The San Diego Padres are tipping their caps to the Navy SEALS who gunned down Osama bin Laden by busting out their camouflage jerseys tonight ... TMZ has learned.

0502_sdp_camo_getty_ex
Locker room sources tell us Padres players decided last night they wanted to honor the military by sporting the unis -- which they normally wear only for Sunday home games.

San Diego is home for many U.S. troops, including Navy SEALS ... and the USS Carl Vinson -- the aircraft carrier that buried bin Laden at sea.

We're told the Padres will also observe a moment of silence before tonight's game at PETCO Park to remember the victims of 9/11.

UPDATE: The Padres announced all active, retired, and veteran military personnel can get two free tickets to tonight's game. You can hear the cheers already ... "USA! USA!!"

@Midnight Toker - The Padres are very generous with tickets to military. Every home Sunday game, the graduating Marine Company (Marine Corps Recruit Depot-San Diego) receive a bank of tickets. They've done this for many years.

HaHaHa, SHAME ON YOU. As a New Yorker who witnessed the horrific consequences of his radical/violent behavior I am relieved he can no longer spew his venom.
Patriotism is never WRONG.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

Very cool. Love that idea. Maybe a Navy Seal patch on the uniforms. Don't do it for too long though unless you want the entire place overrun by hillbillies with beer-coolers, beer-bellies, & gun-racks.

Tonight's Washington Nationals-San Francisco Giants baseball game in Washington, D.C. had long been scheduled as "Military Appreciation Night," including various salutes to the troops, flyovers, and the Nationals wearing special patriotic uniforms (not sure about the Giants). It may even bump the Nats' attendance by a few thousand. :)

The Padres have had the cammi uniforms for some time now. I'm not sure when they first wore them.

@MIDNIGHT TOKER

You're high, smelly troll.

The seating area where injured military men and women sit (often in wheelchairs) are above the usual 'behind home plate' TV shots at Nationals Park in D.C. The troops are saluted midway through every home game, often coming from rehabbing at Walter Reed Hospital. It's nice to even see the umpires turning to face our wounded warriors, and applauding.

Now you can go back to smoking your bowl, you loser.

Anything to honor the more than 1,000,000 innocent Iraqis, Afghanis, and soldiers who've died in the hunt for bin Laden? Or do the Padres not give a **** about anyone else?

I think the camo jerseys are a GREAT way to honor those who brought Bin Laden to his final justice. Kudos to the Padres - very classy!
