'19 Kids and Counting' Fam -- Emergency Pit Stop

6/7/2011 1:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Traveling across the country with 19 kids SUCKS -- especially when the bus springs an oil leak ... and that's exactly what happened to the fam on TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" last week.

The Duggar family -- all 21 members -- were en route from their home in Tontitown, AR to NYC to appear on the "Today" show ... when daddy Jim Bob noticed oil leaking from their massive tour bus.

Jim Bob wanted to fix the problem ASAP -- so he drove towards the closest bus repair shop ... which happened to be in the small town of Loudonville, Ohio ... population 2,982.

We're told Jim Bob wanted to make sure the family was comfortable during the stop -- so he rented out a couple of rooms at a nearby hotel so they could beat the heat ... and then treated the kids to a gigantic pizza lunch.

4 hours later ... the bus was back in action -- and the family completed their trip to The Big Apple without any other complications.

Or Nadya Suleman! At least they did it the right way, with the proper family structure needed to raise a large family, and had the means to support them on their own. No welfare, no food stamps, no disability payments. It's refreshing to see such a well mannered, well raised, family. I may not agree with their religous beliefs, but I respect them none the less.

They deserve everything they get. Good for them... I wish them much success.

I actually heard this woman say she would love to have another baby (after the last one was born and both she and the baby almost died.) She added that even if it killed her, she'd love to get pregnant again. That right there tells you how she feels about her kids. Just to be pregnant again, she'd risk death and leaving all those children motherless.

I'm sorry, I know they are self sufficient but there is no way one mother and one father can interact on a normal basis with all those kids. By the way, does anyone ever see Jim Bob (the dad) ever do any work? I see him supervising his boys but I don't think I've ever seen him lift a finger.

I forgot about the Octomom! Now, THAT is a leech on society!

themare, that maybe so in the beginning but in Octomom (Nadya Suleman) defense, she hasn't been receiving any form of gov't benefits that I am aware of since March 2009.

At least they raise and take care of their kid's and they all are polite and friendly.

Except for the SSI disability payments she receives for 3 of her kids. THAT is gov't assistance, whether you want to believe it or not.

SSI does not even pay anything at all it's a drop in the bucket. If they get that it would have to be used for what ever problems the children have nothing else.

How can this guy with 19 kids afford a Prevost bus, my neighbor has one that he bought used and he paid over $200,000.00 and a Hummer, how much does TLC spend to make this show. How big is the house?

The house is a monster. You can see it online. They have their own website, but I don't know what it is. Probably just Google Duggar family and you will find it.

Miss B

It's Tontitown, AR (Arkansas)... not Tontitown, AK. AK is the abbreviation for ALASKA.

To answer your question about their income (from Wikipedia):

Jim Bob served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002. The Duggars' income is derived from the commercial properties they own. They live debt-free, which Jim Bob has said is "the fruit of Jim Sammons' Financial Freedom Seminar" he attended years ago). Their 650 square meter (7,000 square foot) house was built by the family itself over the course of three years with minimal assistance from friends, primarily in the form of instruction. The home was completed on January 20, 2006. The painting, decorating, furnishings, appliances, and other finishing touches, such as a stocked pantry, were provided by Discovery Networks and corporate sponsors as part of the one-hour television special.

Obviously their income is now supplemented with the TV shows. The home was started 2 years prior to their first TV show.

mildly insane

Editors take out bad parts of the Duggars and only show the good to make the Duggar seem perfect, it's the way JimBob wanted it. See for yourself--
And your family is perfect?
They're good parents would i want that many kids no
but they work hard and do what they have to
to take care of their family as for tlc
if their willing to pay to follow the Duggars around
he would be a fool to not take advantage of it.

If any one of you has been preggers, then you'd know it isn't a picnic. So, to go thru that as many times as this woman has, and act like it is a just peachy, makes her a whack job. I have had three, without an epidurul I might add....and I don't want to do it again thanks...besides, all one has to do is listen to these mentally ill adults talk for 3 seconds and it is clear there is a washer missing.

These gifts from God, are nothing of the sort....ya got preggers because you didn't use protection, it ain't God sweetie, it is your husband's penis.

In the old days before birth control to have a Tribe O' Children was not uncommon, and women were scared to death when they didn't get their period, but, come on, to have this many, how are you truly paying attention to that many? How do you have that many kids and think it's just fine?

It is just plain creepy to me......and irresponsible too. But, hey whatever.....rock on Duggards. Better you than me.
