MLB Legend Mark Grace -- Busted for DUI

6/8/2011 3:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Former Chicago Cubs superstar Mark Grace was arrested for drunk driving in Scottsdale, Arizona on Memorial Day ... and according to the police report, Mark has good taste in scotch.

According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, cops observed Grace in his 2009 Jaguar weaving in and out of his lane around 1 AM on May 30. Once officers pulled him over, cops say Grace -- who had a female passenger in the car -- admitted to "having a few drinks."

According to the report, Grace said he had consumed two glasses of Macallan scotch earlier that evening -- one of which he finished "5 minutes before the stop."

Cops say 46-year-old Grace -- who's now an announcer for the Arizona Diamondbacks -- also had "bloodshot and watery eyes" ... and he did not have his wallet or license with him at the time of the arrest.

When the officer asked, "How do you think you did on the field tests" ... Grace replied, "Not well enough."

Grace was handcuffed and taken to a nearby command post -- where blood was drawn to measure his blood alcohol level. The results of the blood test have not been returned.

Grace was booked on DUI with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more, DUI impaired to the slightest degree, improper right turn, driver's license not in possession and failure to carry registration in vehicle.

He'd often come into Babes sports bar and grill on Shea BLVD. with a different chick every time it seemed and just get smashed outta his mind. Like sloppy, sloppy wasted.

Blood alcohol level of .08 is incredibly low. He sounds like he was respectful while detained. People are too quick to judge others. DUI is often a witch hunt. Give the guy a break.

Bad enough getting busted for DUI, not having a licence, registration or insurance. Jeez, at least have that.

LOL!!..Gotta love Mark's sense of humor. He was always that way played against him in high school, great athlete and I hope he will handle this rather quickly. Old Boy's has been known to party hard, maybe this will calm him down a bit.

Not low enough. BAC of .08 is breaking the law in Arizona. If he hit and killed a friend or relative of yours while driving impaired with a BAC of .08, would you come on TMZ to tell everyone that a "Blood alcohol level of .08 is incredibly low." and to "Give the guy a break"? I think not. If he killed you while he was driving drunk, you certainly wouldn't come on TMZ afterwards to make your absurd comments.

Mark has always been my favorite Chicago Cubs of all time. When he was here he had a rep for being a party animal and I see he hasnt stopped yet. I hope he can just get past this and keep on being the witty, funny Mark Grace I grew up to love. I'm pulling for your through this Mark.

You people are diseased... just like most state legislators. Our legislators now hand out harsher penalties to people who haven't ran into anything.... than they hand out to idiotic sober people who smash into cars and hurt people and damage property. Where's the mugshot of the 1000 sober drivers who actually hit something today?? I guess running into something isn't THAT big of a deal to our legislators... preemptively running around punishing people just because they have coors light on their breath...oh of course that's priority #1.

It's dangerous enough to drive sober. And yes, sober drivers get into a lot of accidents. And yes, sober drivers should be arrested if they had an accident because they drove recklessly. But, it seems like you are justifying people getting drunk and then driving so they can increase the probability that they will get into a car accident because they will be impaired. Wow! I don't see how you make much sense. Are you saying that because you drive drunk or you just want to support the poor, oppressed drunk drivers?

No, .08% is the legal standard for being drunk while driving in most states. Many countries have zero tolerance for alcohol level while driving or legal limits of .02%, .03%, .04% or .05%. So, a Blood Alcohol Content of .08% is quite high, by comparison.
